Steve’s Answer

Great question and as with most questions it can depend on a lot of things, your interests, your strengths, your weaknesses, etc. I have been in technology for the last 35 years and for me I have found a few challenges that I have had to battle:

1. I cannot keep up with the ever changing landscape! Technology changes and in this industry you need to be flexible enough to pivot from one discipline to another or within a discipline as the technology or organization changes. My job changes year to year, month to month and sometimes hour to hour but that can be part of the excitement.
2. I don't know everything I need to know! In the new world (post internet) information is readily available but sometimes can cause fear that you are supposed to know everything. More important than what you know is what you have the ability and drive to learn. If you can learn to learn and enjoy that path you will be successful in almost any field!
3. I am not qualified for this role/job/task? I was considering a jump from my previous position to a new role and almost didn't because I was worried I wasn't qualified and was getting in over my head. A colleague who worked with me that I trusted asked me if I felt completely sure of making the jump to the role I was in at that time. that perspective allowed me to realize I am not going to know everything but I know enough and can learn and grow the skills that will allow me to grow and thrive. (I did jump from a role I was really good at to another and I am thriving in that new role)

I hope this helps and keep in mind any advice, thoughts or perspective s that you take from others have to be right for you (that does not mean take only the ones that you already fit into) it means take all the anecdotes, experiences, advice, etc. and listen process it and say does it ring true and will it help me.

Good Luck to you!

Stacey’s Answer

Pursuing a dream is a remarkable journey, but it’s not without its challenges. Here are some common obstacles people face when striving to make their dreams a reality:

Self-Doubt and Fear:
Believing in oneself is crucial. Doubts and fears can hinder progress. Overcoming self-doubt requires resilience and a strong belief in the dream’s worthiness.

Sacrifices:
Pursuing dreams often involves sacrifices. These may include time away from loved ones, financial instability, or foregoing immediate comforts. Balancing personal life with dream pursuit can be challenging.

Fear of Failure:
The fear of failing can paralyze dreams. Embracing failure as part of growth is essential. Each setback is a lesson that propels you forward.

External Obstacles:
Resource limitations, family crises, health issues, or unexpected life events can hinder dream pursuit. Finding ways to overcome these obstacles is vital.

Comfort Zone Resistance:
Dreams often lie beyond our comfort zones. Pushing past familiarity can be uncomfortable, but it’s necessary for growth and achievement.

Changing Relationships:
As you pursue your dream, relationships may evolve. Some may support you, while others may not understand or may even discourage you. Navigating changing dynamics can be challenging.

Financial Constraints:
Financial stability is essential for daily life, but pursuing dreams may involve financial risks. Balancing practical needs with dream pursuit requires careful planning.

Health and Well-Being:
Physical and mental health impact dream pursuit. Maintaining well-being while striving for goals is crucial.

Patience and Persistence:
Dreams take time. Staying committed, even when progress seems slow, is essential. Patience and persistence fuel the journey.

Adapting to Change:
The path to a dream is rarely linear. Flexibility and adaptability help navigate unexpected detours and adjust course as needed.

Remember, every challenge is an opportunity for growth. Embrace the journey, learn from setbacks, and keep moving toward your dream.

Wendy’s Answer

There will always be challenges to overcome and its important to remember that it is completely normal. Some days will be better than others, and some things will come to you easier than others.
Ask questions or ask for help - if you dont understand something, there is no shame in that
Be fearless - if you want to ask a question ask it, if you want to say something say it (as long as polite and in context), if you want to try something try it.
Be yourself - dont change yourself too much for others
Don't be afraid to fail - you'll learn a great deal from that

Here are some short quotes and sayings my friends and I remind each other of when we need a little guidance or inspiration:

*Don't let fear make the choice for you...or other people. - That fear robs your confidence. Trust yourself, trust your abilities, have courage, because that little bit of courage will get you to the other side of fear.

*Stay openminded to new experiences, and stay humble. - Never make the assumption that you know everything, or that you're the smartest person in the room. Be smart enough to know you don't have all the answer.

*Fail fast; fail often... and be mindful that failure breeds opportunity. - your relationship to failure will make you better, as long as you accept and own your failures. Each failure becomes a part of your journey. Failure breeds wisdom.

*Don't let others hold you back, unless you're standing at the edge of the cliff of self-doubt. - Seek guidance when in doubt.

*No one can be you better than you. - Be yourself, everyone else is taken.

*Show me your habits, and I'll show you your future. - Actions count from day one. If you want something, you have to take the steps towards it. Dreaming alone is not enough of an action. Hope is not a strategy.

*Embracing your authenticity is the key to your ultimate success. - You can be your worst enemy, or your best advocate. When worst comes to worst, don't allow that inner voice to turn on your.

*If you're looking out the rear view window, or the side windows, you'll never see where you're going. Always face forward and focused on the now.
