Hi Kingsley! Being an active listener is a great skill to work on, and is beneficial at all points throughout your life both professionally and personally. Here are some tips on how to effectively learn by focusing on active listening -
1. Pay full attention to the speaker: Avoid distractions and focus on the speaker's words, tone, and body language.
2. Show interest and engagement: Use verbal and non-verbal cues such as nodding, maintaining eye contact, and providing encouraging feedback.
3. Ask clarifying questions: Seek clarification when needed to ensure a clear understanding of the speaker's message.
4. Reflect and paraphrase: Summarize and repeat key points to demonstrate comprehension and show the speaker that you are actively listening.
5. Avoid interrupting or jumping to conclusions: Allow the speaker to finish their thoughts before responding and avoid making assumptions.
I hope this helps you on your journey!

One can learn by taking notes and asking questions. Oftentimes, we are distracted and find it difficult to listen to lectures for extended periods of time, but with enough discipline, one can overcome this by getting rid of things like your phone that has access to social media, for example. Working with a study buddy collaboratively is also a good idea. Set little benchmarks or goals for yourself and with each time you reach them, you will see you are gradually learning more and more.
