Dear Hilda,

Mastering the Art of Being an Excellent Student

Becoming an exceptional student involves honing in on several crucial elements that fuel academic achievement. Here's a guide to help you evolve into the best student you can possibly be:

1. Cultivate a Growth Mindset: Welcome challenges and view setbacks as stepping stones towards growth. Trust in your potential to evolve through consistent effort and commitment.

2. Define Clear Objectives: Determine your own definition of success and establish precise, attainable objectives. Break down overarching goals into smaller, manageable tasks.

3. Optimize Your Time: Develop a study routine that helps you juggle your academic duties along with other pursuits. Prioritize tasks based on their urgency and significance.

4. Maintain Order: Keep a record of assignments, deadlines, and key dates using a planner or digital aids. Keep a clean workspace to reduce distractions.

5. Engage Actively in Class: Immerse yourself in the subject by raising questions, partaking in debates, and seeking clarity when required. Active involvement can deepen your grasp of the subject.

6. Seek Assistance When Required: If you're finding a concept or task challenging, don't hesitate to ask teachers, tutors, or peers for help. Requesting assistance is a sign of strength, not a weakness.

7. Prioritize Self-Care: Ensure your physical and mental health by getting adequate sleep, maintaining a balanced diet, exercising consistently, and managing stress effectively. A healthy body and mind are vital for academic achievement.

8. Regularly Review and Revise: Consistently go over your notes, textbooks, and study materials to reinforce your comprehension of the content. Regular revision aids in retaining information more efficiently.

9. Keep Your Motivation High: Discover your inner motivation by reminding yourself of your objectives and the reasons behind your academic aspirations. Celebrate small wins along the way to keep your motivation levels high.

By weaving these strategies into your daily routine and remaining dedicated to your academic pursuit, you can work towards becoming the best student you can be.

Jaclyn’s Answer

To be the best student, isn't just about how many hours you study or memorization, even if that is part of it.
Here are some tips to help you be the best student:
1.) Choose a subject that you love, it will be much easier to stay engaged in the classroom if you actually like the subject you're studying.
2.) Recite notes around 30 minutes after class while the information is still in your head, this will make memorization much easier, do this for about 10-20 minutes if you can.
3.) Have fun with your notes, make flashcards, or pretend you're teaching the subject to someone else; this is the most effective strategy!
4.) Most importantly know the difference between memorizing and learning. Memorizing involves repetition so that you know the subject, but learning allows you to understand the subject, this gives you skills such as critical thinking and analyzing skills that are important for your career.
5.) Rest, this is something many people struggle with due to stress of not having assignments or other work done, so when you're feeling overwhelmed take at least 5-10 minutes to breath and not think of anything just breath. Just remember if you can't focus while studying it's your brain saying you need to rest so listen to it.
6.) If you find that you can't focus during a lecture, invest in a recorder, that way if you miss any important information you can listen to the lecture again.

I hope these tips help you on your academic journey!

Hello Hilda,

It's really important to keep your focus when you're studying.

Consider using a handy planner, either paper-based or digital, to help you manage your day-to-day tasks. This can include your class timings, study hours, homework time, and so on.

Stay excited and curious about the subject or topic you're studying. This will make the learning process more enjoyable.

Remember, your teachers are there to help you. Pay close attention to their teachings, as their knowledge and experience can be incredibly beneficial to your learning journey.
