1. Complete a Railroad Conductor’s Certificate Program:
Enroll in a five- or six-week program that focuses on rail safety and teaches the duties of a railroad conductor. This program will provide

2. Visit the Amtrak Website:

Fill out all sections of the electronic application.
3. Minimum Requirements:
Possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
Be 21 years old or over.
Pass a background check.
Undergo drug and alcohol screenings once hired.
4. Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Exam:
All train conductors on national, regional, and commuter routes must pass an FRA exam.
The exam includes a written test, a skills test, and a supervisor’s determination that the applicant knows the route.
Applicants must pass the exam for each new route they undertake.
A drug test may also be required".
