Kim’s Answer

My "career" peaked after I retired. I got involved in small town politics, and was able to organize an effort that led to the freezing of municipal property taxes for the elderly and disabled. The number of people I met in that effort, and the genuine gratitude they expressed for finally someone in this city doing something for them, brought me to tears on an almost daily basis. People who can afford a $5000 emergency expense have no clue what it is like to not be able to cover a $200 emergency expense. Knowing that I made such an impact on so many peoples' lives is more than I ever did as a police officer (25 years) or career counselor (10 years). For whatever reason, doing things for others somehow makes you feel good about yourself. And therein lies the value.

Paul’s Answer

With me, it is working with people. I have always had a philosophy of "service to others" and assisting the public in resolving their problems, answering their questions, or helping them to find the right resources to help them, can be very satisfying in my career.

Amanda’s Answer

In my opinion, my career has been rewarding on a personal level and a professional level. I decided after many years in the food/restaurant industry, I took the leap and switched to Banking with Citizens. It was scary in the beginning because I was completely out of my comfort zone. After time I adjusted and learned so much in my new career and about myself. The hours helped my family life be much happier and better compared to my previous career. Its very true about what they say about "banker hours" lol. I found I have a passion in generally just helping people and finding I can do that in banking as I did in the food industry. It is beyond rewarding, even though they are completely different careers. Iv grown stronger and more confident as time has gone by, and I look forward every day to coming into work which I know can be rare.

I hope you are able to find your passion no matter how big or small. If it brings you happiness, you will grow in what ever you choose to do in life.

A.K,

Theresa’s Answer

The most rewarding aspect of my career journey is the incredible individuals I've had the privilege to work alongside and the enduring friendships I've formed at every stage of my professional life. The work itself is deeply satisfying, yet it's the bonds you build with your colleagues and mentors that truly enrich your experience. They stand by your side, offering support and guidance on both personal and professional fronts, often extending far beyond the span of your shared work tenure.

Ryan’s Answer

For many individuals, the best part of their career can vary depending on their personal interests and values. Here are a few aspects that people often find fulfilling in their careers:

Personal Growth and Development: A fulfilling career offers opportunities for continuous learning and personal growth. It allows individuals to acquire new skills, expand their knowledge, and develop professionally. This growth can lead to a sense of accomplishment and self-improvement.

Making a Positive Impact: Many people find value in careers that allow them to make a positive impact on others or society as a whole. Whether it's through providing a service, solving complex problems, or contributing to meaningful projects, the ability to create a positive change can be deeply rewarding.

Professional Achievement and Recognition: Achieving professional milestones, receiving recognition for one's work, and advancing in one's career can bring a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. This can include promotions, awards, or being acknowledged for expertise in a particular field.

Work-Life Balance: A fulfilling career allows individuals to maintain a healthy work-life balance, enabling them to pursue personal interests, spend time with loved ones, and engage in activities outside of work. Achieving a balance between work and personal life can contribute to overall well-being and satisfaction.

Financial Stability and Security: A successful career often provides financial stability and security, which can lead to a higher quality of life, the ability to support oneself and loved ones, and the freedom to pursue personal goals and aspirations.

It's important to note that the best part of a career can be subjective and may vary from person to person. What brings fulfillment and adds value to one person's life may differ from another's. It's essential to align your career choices with your own values, interests, and goals to find the most fulfilling path for you.

Jan’s Answer

I work as a product designer in tech creating experiences that people use daily, and to me just that opportunity to play a role in changing someone's experience for the better is what motivates me. Being able to constantly improve the experience, talk to users, understand their pain points, work on solutions to improve those parts, and see a positive change is what drove me towards that career path. As a product designer you get to shape experiences early-on, and work together with other disciplines (engineers, product managers, researchers) all collectively trying to ship amazing experiences.

James Constantine’s Answer

Dear Lilly,

Once upon a time, I envisioned myself peering into the cosmos as an astrophysicist or astronomer, a dream sparked by the gift of a small telescope. However, my life took a dramatic turn in 1974 during my senior high school years. My uncle, who was only 38, suffered a severe heart attack and passed away. His death was a wake-up call for me, especially when his former boss, a biochemistry professor, showed up at our university. This professor had previously supervised my uncle's research in biochemistry.

This chain of events led me to pivot from my initial interest in astrophysics and complex mathematics like quantum mechanics, and instead, I decided to delve into the world of biochemistry. My goal was to uncover the reasons behind the alarming rate of heart diseases among my male Greek relatives.

Reflecting on how my career has enriched my life, I believe the most significant value lies in my ability to impact people's lives positively through nutrition education. Unfortunately, I couldn't assist my relatives as they passed away before I became a dietitian. I've been coding since 1972 and practicing dietetics since 1988. In 1994, I decided to merge these two skills and began developing nutrition education software.

I've set up a YouTube Studio to showcase my nutrition software. You can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/user/yimi90125/videos?app=desktop

May God bless you!
JC.

Samantha’s Answer

I work as a senior tax analyst at a big 4 firm. The best part of my career is the broad variety of industries and situations you are exposed to and how quickly you are able to move up the ladder.

To the first point, you get to work with a variety of clients and therefore get to learn about quite a few different industries until you decide to specialize. You are also exposed to various different situations that impact a company and have the opportunity to work with a broad range of teams.

To the latter benefit, you get to move up the ladder very quickly. You can make manager in about 5 years. That being said, it is a very demanding road to get there since you move up so quickly.
