Hey Katu, finishing school can be nerve-wracking with all the change it induces. But remember, the only constant in life is change, embrace it. What happens after you finish school largely depends on what path you have taken in school (majors, minors, etc.) and what your desired career path is. If you want to continue learning before getting a job, you could even go to grad school. But, if you want to start a job right away, you should look at what kind of jobs are offered to people who have your skillset. Check sites like indeed, workday, or linkedin to start finding places you can apply to, and start finding roles that you feel you'd be a good fit for.

It's hard to answer what to expect after school, as this is a question that provides varying responses based on personal expectations. My expectation is that I would find a stable job, and move to a city. With that in mind, I worked hard trying to find a good job opportunity, and uprooted to move to that city of the job offer. If you have a different vision for yourself and your life, start looking into a career path and lifestyle that will support your vision. I wish you the best of luck!

Dear Katu,

After finishing school, you can expect various opportunities for a good and rewarding career. The specific career path depends on your field of study, skills, interests, and personal goals. Here are some general trends and statistics:

Employment growth: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in professional, scientific, and technical services occupations is projected to grow 10% from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. Similarly, healthcare occupations are projected to grow by 14% during the same period.

Salary potential: The BLS reports that the median weekly earnings for workers with a bachelor’s degree or higher were $1,318 in May 2020, compared to $765 for those with only a high school diploma. This represents a significant difference in earning potential over the course of a career.

Job satisfaction: According to a Gallup poll conducted in 2021, college graduates reported higher levels of job satisfaction (34%) compared to those without a college degree (29%). Additionally, certain fields such as education, healthcare, and engineering tend to have higher levels of job satisfaction overall.

Continuous learning: In today’s rapidly changing world, it’s essential to continue learning throughout your career to stay competitive and adapt to new technologies and trends. Many employers offer opportunities for professional development and education reimbursement programs to help their employees grow and advance within the organization.

Networking: Building strong professional relationships is crucial for career success. Attend industry events, join professional organizations, and engage with colleagues and mentors to expand your network and learn from others in your field.

Work-life balance: Achieving a healthy work-life balance is important for long-term career success and overall well-being. Set realistic goals for your workload and prioritize self-care activities such as exercise, hobbies, and spending time with family and friends.**

GOD BLESS YOU!

After finishing school, the specific experiences and opportunities you can expect will depend on the path you choose. Here are some general expectations for different educational paths:

1. Higher Education (College/University):
- Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree: After completing your undergraduate degree, you can expect to enter the job market or continue your education with advanced degrees.
- Graduate School: If you choose to pursue a graduate degree (Master's or Ph.D.), you can expect to specialize in a specific field and conduct research or gain advanced knowledge in your chosen area of study.

2. Vocational/Technical Training:
- After completing vocational or technical training programs, you can expect to enter the workforce with specialized skills and knowledge in a specific trade or industry. You may find employment in fields such as healthcare, automotive, construction, culinary arts, or cosmetology.

3. Gap Year or Travel:
- If you decide to take a gap year or travel after finishing school, you can expect to have a period of time to explore different experiences, gain new perspectives, and potentially engage in volunteer work, internships, or cultural immersion programs.

4. Job Market:
- Upon completing your education, you can expect to enter the job market and begin your career. The specific opportunities and experiences will depend on your chosen field and the demand for professionals in that industry. You may need to search for job openings, submit applications, attend interviews, and compete with other candidates.

5. Entrepreneurship:
- If you have entrepreneurial aspirations, you can expect to start your own business or pursue self-employment. This path involves developing a business plan, securing funding, and navigating the challenges and rewards of running your own venture.

Regardless of the path you choose, it's important to continue learning and growing throughout your career. Expect to encounter new challenges, opportunities for professional development, and the need to adapt to changing industries and technologies. Networking, building relationships, and staying open to new experiences will also be important aspects of your post-school journey.

Remember, everyone's journey is unique, and your experiences may differ based on your individual choices, circumstances, and goals. Embrace the opportunities that come your way, stay proactive, and continue to pursue personal and professional growth.

Hi Katu, you can expect a world ready for you to apply the skills your learned in school. Most graduates are not going to have amazing opportunities out of the gate but building up your resume and experiences, and continuing your education, will increase your opportunities at succeeding.

A good future is relative to what you believe a good future will be for you. Take time to figure out what's most important to you in the future and seek out those things. In the end, I wouldn't expect anything to be easy or expect a predefined path awaiting you. You'll need to seek it out with diligence.

I think you will find that life after school is largely what you make of it.

If you can find a job you enjoy and continue to learn and grow, you should be able to position yourself to find success.

Just remember that you have more control than most people realize. You can always learn more, network, volunteer and do other things to help grow your career. The more effort you put forth, the better likelihood you will be successful.

Dear Katu,

Navigating Life Post-School: A Guide

Transitioning from school to the next chapter of your life can be an exciting, albeit challenging, journey. The experiences that await you may differ based on your educational background, personal ambitions, and dreams. Here are some key aspects to anticipate:

1. Advancing Your Education: Many students choose to further their education after school. This could involve joining a college or university to earn an advanced degree, such as a bachelor's or master's. Pursuing higher education can broaden your career prospects and enable you to specialize in a specific area.

2. Embarking on Your Career: School completion often signifies the start of your professional journey. Prepare to explore job opportunities that align with your studies or interests. This could mean applying for entry-level roles, internships, or training programs to gain hands-on experience and hone your skills.

3. Achieving Financial Independence: Post-school life also brings the prospect of financial independence. As you begin to earn, you'll start managing your finances, repaying any student debts, and saving for future aspirations like buying a house or starting a family.

4. Experiencing Personal Growth: Completing school is a significant personal and developmental milestone. Expect to continue evolving personally and professionally through new experiences, overcoming challenges, and interacting with others in your professional and personal life.

5. Expanding Your Network: Post-school life offers opportunities to establish valuable professional networks. Connecting with colleagues, mentors, industry experts, and alumni can open doors for collaboration, mentorship, job referrals, and career growth.

6. Pursuing Your Interests: The knowledge and skills acquired during your school years lay the groundwork for pursuing your passions post-graduation. Be it through your job, hobbies, volunteering, or further education, you're free to explore what truly inspires you and aligns with your values.

7. Embracing Challenges and Opportunities: The journey post-school will present both challenges and opportunities. Embrace these hurdles as learning moments and leverage opportunities for growth to pave the way for a rewarding and successful future.
