When you are a police officer how long are the hours?

Hi my name is Jeremy I would like to know the hours of being a police officer. When I was nine years old I wanted to become a police officer. I have had people tell that I would make a good police officer. #law #police #police-officer #legal-advice #sheriff

Hello Jeremy,

After researching your topic for a while, I came across some interesting information I would like to share with you. You were interested in knowing what type of hours a police officer typically works since you might be interested in the career. I came to the consensus that police officers generally work in 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts depending on their respective departments. If you would like to check out what I read, there is an interesting forum for officers of the law that I pulled my information from. I will post a link to the discussion on the forum I found initially and let you go from there. I also learned that the days of the week officers work varies greatly by department as well. I hope you found some of this information useful. If you have further questions, I encourage you to post them here. As always, thank you for asking Career Village!

Hi,

It depends on the law enforcement agency you work for and what unit you get assigned to. In patrol work, every department varies 5 days on 2 days off, 4 days on 3 days off, and etc. the lowest I've seen is 8 hour shift and the highest is 12 hour shifts (work week is 37.5 hours).

If you become a detective, the hours depend on the unit you are assigned too and where the investigation takes you.
