Dominique,
I see several relevant tips from other mentors. School (not college or university) was rarely a fun or happy place for me because for a while I didn't feel like I fit in, so if you ask me, 'success' in high school would mostly be about my enjoyment and happiness. For example, whenever you have a choice, choose something based on your enjoyment, whether it's food, sport, class, or an extracurricular activity. And it would be helpful to think about and plan how you can use your time in school to prepare for when you finish school, no matter what that looks like for you. I also hope that you have, or find, at least one person you trust and care about that you can turn to or hang out with when you need to, because that connection can support your mental health which is important.
Good luck!

Succeeding in high school requires a combination of academic excellence, personal growth, and effective time management.
1. Set Clear Goals: Define your academic and personal goals. Whether it's getting straight A's, participating in extracurricular activities, or preparing for college, having clear objectives will keep you focused and motivated.
2. Develop Good Study Habits: Establish a consistent study routine and create a conducive environment for learning. Break down your study material into manageable chunks, use active learning techniques like summarizing and teaching others, and review regularly to reinforce your understanding.
3. Manage Your Time Wisely: Prioritize your tasks and allocate time for studying, attending classes, participating in extracurricular activities, and personal relaxation. Use tools like planners or digital calendars to organize your schedule and avoid procrastination.
4. Stay Organized: Keep track of assignments, deadlines, and important dates. Use binders, folders, or digital apps to organize your notes and materials for each subject. Being organized helps reduce stress and ensures you stay on top of your responsibilities.
5. Seek Help When Needed: Don't hesitate to ask for help from teachers, tutors, or classmates if you're struggling with a particular subject or concept. Take advantage of resources such as study groups, tutoring sessions, or online educational platforms to supplement your learning.
6. Stay Engaged in Class: Actively participate in class discussions, ask questions, and take thorough notes. Engaging with the material during lectures helps reinforce your understanding and makes studying more effective.
7. Balance Academics with Extracurricular Activities: While academics are important, don't neglect extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, or community service. These activities provide valuable experiences, help you develop new skills, and make your high school years more enriching.
8. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: Get enough sleep, eat nutritious meals, and exercise regularly. A healthy lifestyle enhances your cognitive function, improves your mood, and boosts your overall well-being, which are essential for academic success.
9. Stay Motivated and Persevere: High school can be challenging at times, but maintain a positive attitude, stay motivated, and persevere through obstacles. Celebrate your successes, learn from your failures, and keep pushing yourself to achieve your goals.
