School Advice?
Since I'm starting my sophomore year of high school in the fall, I would like some advice for the incoming school year. I am interested in the medical field (especially psychiatry) and would like to have some tips to build a strong resume over the school year for internships I can have when my junior year starts.

Great question! If you have a passion for mental health, there are two main paths you can take. You could choose to go to medical school to become a psychiatrist. In this role, you'd primarily work with individuals who have severe mental illnesses, often due to physical or physiological issues. Your focus would be on prescribing medications to manage these conditions, rather than the traditional method of talk therapy.
On the other hand, you could choose to become a psychologist, mental health nurse practitioner, or mental health social worker. These professionals often focus more on therapies like cognitive behavioral changes. Nurse practitioners, in particular, might also prescribe medications for certain conditions.
To prepare for either path, I recommend taking as many psychology and sociology courses as you can. This will give you a well-rounded background in the field. If you're interested in gaining practical experience, consider volunteering at a local Veteran's facility or a mental health institution. These opportunities can provide valuable hands-on experience in the mental health field.
Remember, your passion and dedication to helping others is what will make you truly successful in whichever path you choose. Keep exploring, keep learning, and you'll find the right fit for you.

Have you talked to your School Guidance Counselor about your career path?
I would recommend you to ask your School Guidance Counselor to give you some assistance in creating a strong resume for Medical Internships with a Focus in Psychiatry.
I would also recommend talking to your Sciences Teachers to get their advice and assistance on building this type of resume.
In addition, please talk to your primary care physician or any other medical providers whom you know about your career goal and ask for his/her advice on how to build a strong resume for Medical Internships with a Focus in Psychiatry.
Good luck with this project!
