Hi Faith,
In addition to Pamela's answer, you may be asked to bring along someone to showcase your skills on. Being personable is a quality many salons look for in addition to being able to pick up the slack if a colleague is sick and clients can not be rescheduled.
Best of Luck!

A job interview for cosmetology typically focuses on assessing both technical skills and interpersonal abilities. Interviewers might ask questions to gauge your knowledge of beauty treatments, hair styling, makeup application, and other cosmetology services. They may also be interested in your customer service skills, ability to handle different client requests, and your passion for the beauty industry.
Expect questions such as:
- Can you describe your experience with different hair styling techniques?
- How do you stay updated with the latest beauty trends?
- Can you provide an example of how you handled a difficult client?
- What is your approach to maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment?
In addition, you might be asked to perform a practical demonstration of your skills, such as styling hair, applying makeup, or giving a manicure.
---
My experience in a cosmetology interview would be hypothetical, but here's a tailored response:
"In my interview, I was asked about my experience with various beauty treatments and how I stay current with industry trends. They were particularly interested in my ability to build rapport with clients and handle any challenges that might arise. I also had to demonstrate my skills by performing a quick hairstyle and makeup application, which was a bit nerve-wracking but also a great opportunity to showcase my expertise."
