What can I do to accomplish my goal while still being in high school with hard classes?
I always wanted to be a cosmetologist or an aesthetician ever since I was young and I want to get my license in one of those careers. I have a chance of getting my Aesthetician license early, but I have a question; am I able to get like an internship or able to work early in that desire career when it's my second year of high school going on to my third if I do get this license early?

Hello Cyprianna,
To accomplish your goal of becoming a cosmetologist or an aesthetician while still in high school with challenging classes, there are several steps you can take to work towards obtaining your license and gaining experience in the field. Here is a comprehensive guide on how you can pursue your passion for cosmetology or aesthetics while managing your academic responsibilities:
1. Research and Understand Licensing Requirements:
Start by researching the licensing requirements for cosmetologists and aestheticians in your state. Each state has its own set of regulations regarding education, training hours, and exams needed to obtain a license in these fields.
2. Explore Early Licensing Opportunities:
Since you mentioned the possibility of getting your Aesthetician license early, it’s essential to understand the process for early licensing in your state. Some states may offer programs that allow high school students to start their training and earn their license before graduating.
3. Enroll in Cosmetology or Aesthetics Programs:
Look for vocational schools or community colleges that offer cosmetology or aesthetics programs. These programs will provide you with the necessary training and education required to pursue a career in the beauty industry.
4. Seek Internship Opportunities:
Contact local salons, spas, or beauty clinics to inquire about internship opportunities for high school students interested in cosmetology or aesthetics. Gaining hands-on experience through internships can be invaluable in building your skills and network in the industry.
5. Time Management and Prioritization:
Balancing high school coursework with pursuing a career in cosmetology or aesthetics requires effective time management and prioritization skills. Create a study schedule that allows you to dedicate time to both academic studies and vocational training.
6. Networking and Building Relationships:
Attend industry events, workshops, or seminars to network with professionals in the beauty industry. Building relationships with experienced cosmetologists and aestheticians can open up doors for mentorship opportunities and future job prospects.
7. Stay Committed and Persistent:
Pursuing a career while still in high school may present challenges, but staying committed to your goal and being persistent in your efforts will ultimately pay off. Keep practicing your skills, seeking learning opportunities, and staying updated on industry trends.

Hello, Cyprianna !
I am so happy to know that you are very ambitious. You will one day be a dynamic cosmetologist and aesthetician !
In your state of Arizona, you must be 16 years old to hold the cosmetology licensure. You must be 23 years old to be an aesthetician. Regardless if you have cosmetology offered in your high school, you state that you are taking demanding classes right now and I wouldn't advise mixing cosmetology with more demanding classes at the same time. Both cosmetology and aesthetician work is also demanding and very focused. I would advise completing high school and then enrolling in cosmetology or aesthetician school.
For both Aesthetician and Cosmetology, there is no "internship". You'd go straight to employment once you obtain your license. The way it works is that both fields require you to fulfill a certain amount of hours working on real customers at the school. Once you have completed your hours, you go for your license. This is not something that can be done simultaneously while being in high school. Until you graduate high school you can be involved in doing hair and make up/facials, etc. for people. Visit the theatre teacher at your school and ask if you can be on the hair and make up crew for the plays they do. You can even start a Style Group at school with other like-minded students. So even if you have to wait you can be involved with hair and makeup, etc., and focus on your grades in your academic subjects. Try not to rush things because it would only add unnecessary stress.
I hope that this is helpful and I wish you all the best !
