Varsha’s Answer

Hi Mayara,

Your question stood out to me because one of my very close friends has the same goal as you: to become a Disney Imagineer! While this is something that she is still working towards (and is still exploring some other areas of interest as well), I've always admired her passion, dedication, and unique interest. And I admire yours, too! Without a doubt, Disney is amazing and engineering/design is a really cool area. Imagineering sounds like a pretty special combination of both!

While I can't really speak for my friend, I can share some steps that she has taken/is taking that may help you:
In college, my friend was a design major. She actually started as a STEM major and switched. She says that choosing the design major was one of her best and most impactful decisions. The design major is very thorough and insightful (I actually took a design elective myself. And I can say that they go quite in detail! They also really help boost creativity!) She said that design helped her get more familiar with design processes, understanding people's needs, and truly understanding what makes design distinct from other areas.

After my friend graduated, she did the Disney college program. While this isn't directly in-line with Design or Engineering, it is 10000% in line with Disney ;) Being at a Disney park almost every day gave her the creative inspiration, positive energy, and dose of Disney that she had always loved. It also helped boost her leadership skills and interact with customers every single day. This, in turn, helped her get familiar with their needs and wants. If she does still plan to become an Imagineer, she will certainly take some of these customer interactions into consideration.

My friend's next step is to do Design Grad school at our alma matter, UC Davis. While this isn't one size fits all and everyone has a unique path, her approach is something to consider as you think about next steps in your journey.

Good luck to you, Mayara! I can't wait to go on one of your rides at a Disney park someday ;)

Varsha recommends the following next steps:

Explore schools with strong Design and Engineering majors
Consider the Disney College program
(This is for much later, so no rush!) Explore schools with a strong Design grad school

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Mayara !

In addition to the great advice the others have provided, I wanted to mention that you would have to consider relocating, too. Disneyland Brazil is in Sao Paulo which is about 277 miles from where you live. You could consider relocating to the U.S. in California where there is the original Disneyland or Florida where there is Disney World. So your first step would actually be deciding where you'd want to live and work.

Since you are already an experienced engineer, all you need to do is keep aware of the job openings and apply for the ones you are interested in. I have left the link below for the engineer jobs Disney currently has. Also, Disney Brazil is expanding and I have left the link to the article for you below.

I hope this is a help and I wish you all the best in your career !
