Should I retake my SAT if I got a 1380 on it?
I will most likely go to a college in Florida (University of central Florida or University of Florida). I also want to major in a science.

With a score of 1380 on your SAT, you're already in a good range for many colleges, including the ones you're considering in Florida. Since you're looking to major in a science field, it's essential to check the specific requirements of the programs you're interested in at University of Central Florida and University of Florida. Some science programs may have specific SAT score expectations, so it's a good idea to research and see if your score meets their criteria. If you feel confident in your score and meet the minimum requirements for your desired programs, retaking the SAT might not be necessary. However, if you believe you can improve your score and it aligns with the program's expectations, you could consider retaking it to strengthen your application. It's ultimately up to you and what you feel will best showcase your abilities.
Your worth and potential go beyond just a test score like the SAT. Your skills, experiences, and passion for science are what truly define you as a student and a future professional. Admissions committees consider a variety of factors beyond test scores, such as your extracurricular activities, personal statements, and letters of recommendation. Your dedication to your field of study and your drive to succeed will shine through in your application. Remember, you are more than just a number on a test, and your unique qualities will make you stand out to colleges.

That's quite a thought-provoking question! First off, well done on achieving a score of 1380. Have you taken a look at the specific score requirements of both universities you're considering? If you're pondering over whether to retake the SAT after scoring 1380, here's something to consider: many educational institutions take into account a student's top SAT score during their admission process. Some even focus on the highest scores obtained in the Math section or the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section. This practice, known as superscoring, doesn't concern itself with whether these top scores were achieved on different test dates. So why not give it another shot? You stand to lose nothing and could potentially gain admission and even scholarships!

As many others have said here, it is important to research what the current SAT score requirements are for the colleges you are interested in. However, it is also important to note that SAT scores are not the only factor for college admissions/scholarships. Colleges will look at your entire application when considering you as an applicant. If you are solely trying to rely on an SAT score to get into colleges, then you might want to consider studying again and retaking it for a better score. However, if you are applying with all of your credentials in mind, a 1380 is great and will not necessarily make our break you application.

Thats a great score and you should be proud! Feel free to take it again if you have the time and resources. It doesn't hurt to take another stab, but I would recommend looking into the schools you want to apply to and find what kind of scores they want to see on the SAT. Look into the credentials of students who got into the schools you're applying to as well and see if there are other areas you could better devote your time to boosting such as extracurriculars or writing a really good application essay. Best of luck!

Hello,
If you are wanting to go to school in Florida, your SAT score now is enough.
However, if you are seeking to get a full ride to school or change your mind and wanting to go to top 20 school in the US, then I would recommend boosting your SAT score somewhere close to 1500.
Good luck!

Hi Annie,
Your SAT score is solid, Your GPA is important. Let them know your study interests, especially if it is to your advantage.
Keep in mind that SAT scores are not the only criteria that admission officers use to consider an applicant for admission. If you have a fairly high high school GPA, and especially high grades in math and science courses, your solid SAT score might be sufficient to garner notice. Also extracurricular activities can help.
As an example:
When I applied to the University of Michigan I can't remember exactly what my SAT score was, but around 1400 (it is ancient history, so don't quote me), but my GPA was 3.98, and I was in track and cross country, and volunteered for the ambulance service, and I worked as a nursing aide at a rest home. This allowed acceptance into the freshman class of 1978-79.

Hello Annie,
Excellent inquiry! Your current SAT score of 1380 is already impressive and meets the requirements for many colleges in Florida you're considering. To get a clearer picture, I suggest you check out the scatterplot in Naviance. This tool will show you the average SAT score and GPA that have successfully gained students from your high school admission into specific colleges.
If this information isn't available in Naviance, don't worry! Colleges often share this type of data on their websites. So, I recommend you visit the website of your preferred college and look for this information. This will help you to evaluate your current standing more accurately.
After analyzing this data, if you still feel the need to improve your SAT score, remember that students typically manage to boost their scores by around 40-100 points in subsequent tests.
I wish you all the best on your journey to college!

A 1380 on the SAT is a solid score, as it puts you in the 93rd percentile nationally. This means that you scored higher than 93% of test-takers, which is definitely an accomplishment. That said, the most elite colleges and universities (Ivy League, e.g) typically want to see something higher. For University of Florida, there's no absolute SAT requirement, but they really want to see at least a 1320 to have a chance at being considered. UCF's average SAT score composite at is 1259, so a 1380 should be be competitive. For other UCF info, you should look at the following website:
https://www.prepscholar.com/sat/s/colleges/UCF-admission-requirements.
You should also be familiar with the "2+2" opportunities which accept an AS degree from a community college at many of Florida's 4-year schools. Here's the info:

This is a fantastic score! If you feel there was one area of the exam you were not too confident in or you know you did not perform as well in compared to others, then you can of course do some extra studying in those areas and have another attempt at it. Continue to do research on your schools of choice and what they are specifically looking for when considering acceptance. This does not only include SAT scores! Remember to focus on finishing your studies in high school strong and getting (or staying) involved in extracurricular activities in or outside of school. This is an exciting time for you, enjoy it and best of luck!

That's a fantastic score, well done! However, if you're feeling uncertain whether it's sufficient for the course or college you're aiming for, don't hesitate to give it another shot. There's absolutely no harm in trying one more time, so I'd recommend taking the test again.

Scoring 1380 out of 1600 is quite a commendable achievement, but if you're aiming higher, feel free to give it another shot. Just bear in mind that the number of attempts could play a role in the final picture.
However, don't let your focus be solely on the SAT. It's equally important to pay attention to your AP courses and strive to do well in them. Also, consider enrolling in advanced courses to boost your GPA. Both your cumulative and weighted GPA can make a significant difference. Your choice of essay topic and how you spend your summer holidays also matter.
When it comes to college admissions, universities, especially Ivy League ones, consider a variety of factors. They may even interview you to understand your aspirations and objectives better.
So, remember to view your college application as a complete package, rather than just focusing on your SAT score.

To gauge if your score is high enough for the school you wish to get into, look up the average SAT score for that school. If you fall into the average range, then you should be good to go! Remember that SAT scores aren't everything -- many colleges take a holistic view into your application. Things like extracurriculars, letters of recommendation, and essays also make a big impact on your overall applicant porfolio.

Hello there
The comments above are excellent. Bottom line is really whether it will make a difference to you getting into the university you would like to attend.
Actually going to or calling the college and asking questions (in person is great if you are able) might be one way of getting the answers you need.

First, as others have said, congratulations on the exceptional score! A 1380 already makes you a competitive applicant, but I would also highly encourage retaking the SAT at least one more time. The main reason for this is that the University of Florida AND UCF both do super scores for the SAT!
If you're unfamiliar with the super score system, here is a quick overview.
Let's say you take the SAT twice and your scoring breakdown is as follows:
Attempt 1 - Math: 730 / Reading: 650 / Total: 1380
Attempt 2 - Math: 680 / Reading: 700 / Total: 1380
At first glance, you received the same composite score (1380). But under the super score system, you can actually take the highest score from each sub-section! So, from the example above, your super score would be [Math: 730] + [Reading: 700] = 1430! Even a 50-point difference such as this can be very beneficial in making you an even more competitive applicant.
This system gives you the opportunity to put more emphasis on your weaker sub-section of the SAT from your first attempt and improve your overall super score!

Congratulations on that GREAT score. I think you have more than a fair shot of getting accepted. I would work on other aspects of the application to set yourself apart. PS: If you think you can put in marginal effort and score over 1500 then i would say retake the test as that would distinguish you further and might increase your changes to receive scholarships

I would suggest looking at the average scores of the college you are interested in and maybe see if you can find the average scores of students in the major that you would like to pursue. A 1380 on the SAT is by no means a bad score, and your SAT score is not the only factor determining admission. Your admission will depend on you as a whole, not just a one time test score. If you have a strong GPA, extracurricular activities, community involvement, leadership, etc. then you will have a stronger chance at being admitted into the college of your choice. If you feel like you can do better on the SAT, then there is no harm in trying again. However, it is important to also work on building a strong resume that defines who you are to the admissions office.
Thank you so much! I will certainly take this advice :)
