I would suggest asking to shadow a doctor in a few fields that you seem interested in. If you don't have a specific interest, youc an start out with a primary care practitioner, and gain their insight in what is interesting and see where you can go from there!

I will answer with follow up questions. What are your current interest? Do you favor dentistry or do you prefer working with animals? What is a role model that woks in that industry and what do they do? If you have such role model, perhaps ask them if you can shadow them during one of their shifts. You can also refer to YouTube to find a virtual version of the aforementioned. This will allow you to identify what you prefer and dislike.

Thank you for your question. I am glad to hear that you would like to be a doctor and help people.
Below are my suggestions:
1. You are right that there are many doctors, eg general practitioner, family, obstetric, emergency, etc. You can find out more online. On the other hand, there are many other jobs you can help people, eg nurse, psychologist, teacher, social worker, etc. Suggest you can explore more other options
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counselor, your parents, etc
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Greetings. Choosing a medical specialty is a very personal decision and depends on your interests and passions. Since you mention that you like helping people and are vegan, you might consider specialties that align with your values and desires to promote health and well-being. Here are some options that might resonate with you: General Medicine: As a primary care physician, you will have the opportunity to form long-term relationships with your patients and help them with a variety of health issues.
Nutrition and Endocrinology: Specializing in nutrition would allow you to help people better understand how their food choices affect their health, which may be especially meaningful for you as a vegan.
Preventive Medicine: This specialty focuses on disease prevention and health promotion at the individual and community level.
Psychiatry: If you are interested in the emotional and mental aspect of well-being, psychiatry offers the opportunity to help people improve their mental health.
Pediatrics: If you enjoy working with children, pediatrics allows you to have a positive impact on the health and development of young people.
Remember that each medical specialty has its own set of challenges and rewards. It would be helpful to do internships or shadows in different areas to get a better idea of what you are most passionate about. Additionally, speaking with doctors in various specialties can give you a clearer view of what each entails. I wish you the best on your path to a rewarding medical career! Fondly. Yesenia.

I think for now you need to make sure that you like being a doctor. you have the passion of helping people, and a passion to biology and chemistry. The question of what kind of doctor will come later after you spend 2 years in medical school, and another 2 years in rotation where you will be going to different department in a hospital, and then you will know what kind of doctor you will be.
Good luck in your career.
Good luck in your career.

PCPs play a vital role in preventive care and maintaining the overall health of their patients. There are many specialties in Medicine. It helps to know if there is something that you feel drawn to. For example, there are specialties that are more surgical: general surgeon, orthopedic surgeon, gynecologic surgeon, neurosurgeon, to name a few. Here you would be operating on someone in an operating room and have some time seeing people in clinic before and after the operation. Also there are clinic based specialties that are not surgical at all. You would see and take care of people in the clinic, outside of the hospital. These are specialties like Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine (which is Primary Care for Families and Adults) , Pediatrician (which is Primary Care for children) , Neurologist, Endocronologist, OB/GYN (Women's Health) and others. Being Vegan, I would imagine, would be something you could help guide families to adopt a healthier lifestyle. I would think the Primary Care specialties would be a good place to introduce and guide people about a vegan diet and lifestyle.
Being a doctor would allow you to focus on diet and many other aspects of health.
There are also careers that were mentioned outside of being a doctor, like a Nutritionist. This would be a way to really focus on diet.
It is a good idea to find a clinic where you could "shadow" (follow) a doctor throughout their work day to see what their day is really like.
Best Wishes,
L.P
