Hey Precious (beautiful name!)

I have to disagree with Ms. Helton. When you're applying to colleges, especially if they require the common application, there is a question that requires you to disclose any disruptions in your educational history and any disciplinary actions that you've experienced in high school. That being said, the admissions officers WILL see that you were suspended.

When I reviewed applications for NYU, I would see suspensions all the time. It really depends on the nature of the suspension. I won't get into specifics because each college is different with what they are comfortable with - but being suspended WILL NOT prevent you from attending college. I would suggest when you're in the app process and are looking for teachers or counselors who can write letters of recommendation for you, you find someone who can speak compassionately about your suspension to provide context to the admissions committee. It's important for the admissions office to feel like whatever behavior led to the suspension is not going to be a problem if admitted to their school.

I hope this helps. If you want access to more resources to help with the college admissions process visit www.clarifyed.co.

Colleges don't see your behavior record. They do not see suspensions. All they care about is your grades and SAT scores.
