Marion’s Answer

I agree. Surgeons can make a million dollars a year or more, but work very hard and at night and on weekends. Not a great family life!

Hello Frederick!

Indeed, the profession of teaching, particularly at a higher level such as a university lecturer, is truly an enriching experience. I had the privilege of experiencing this firsthand in 1982 when I taught biochemistry to medical students at the University of Queensland. My teaching journey also led me to the Safe College of Natural Therapies at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast in Queensland, where I lectured on nutrition, chemistry, and biochemistry. In addition, since 1994, I have been developing nutrition education software, further expanding my educational impact.

As for your question about doctors' earnings, it's important to note that their income can significantly vary based on factors such as specialization, experience, location, and type of practice. On average, physicians in the United States earn a substantial income. As per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of May 2020, the median annual wage for physicians and surgeons was $409,020. However, this can fluctuate based on the medical specialty:

- General practitioners typically earn around $213,270 annually.
- Surgeons, on the other hand, have a higher earning potential with a median annual wage of $409,020.
- Anesthesiologists are among the highest-paid medical professionals, earning a median annual wage of $208,000.

Remember, these figures are averages and actual earnings can vary based on experience, additional certifications, geographic location, and the type of practice.

Many doctors also have the opportunity to earn bonuses and incentives based on performance or patient outcomes. Therefore, becoming a doctor can be a financially rewarding career path.

As for whether being a teacher is "cool," this perception can vary. Teaching is a noble profession that plays a crucial role in shaping future generations. Teachers have the opportunity to inspire students, impart knowledge, and contribute to their personal and intellectual growth.

However, teaching also comes with its challenges, such as high workloads, administrative demands, and societal pressures. Despite these challenges, many people find fulfillment in teaching and view it as a meaningful and important profession.

I hope this information is helpful!

Best wishes,
JC.

Rita’s Answer

Not all doctors make the same amount of money. Surgeons make more money. I would also need to know how many hours and days are you working. Are you working for someone or a company or are you working for yourself? Which state are you working in? These are all questions that would need to be answered.

As a family physician, I think some of my friends in primary care were making about $250,000. In private practice, I made more than that. I also rarely took vacation and would go to the clinic on Saturdays to review charts etc.
