What do you teach as a law enforcement teacher?
I am curious as to what laws and practices they would teach their students concerning laws and law enforcement.

Hello Thomas, my brother is an active member of the DPS in Texas and he's always eager to share his knowledge with new recruits at the Capital. Depending on the level of law enforcement you're involved with, such as City, County, or Federal, there may be variations in the laws. But don't worry, you'll be teaching what's relevant to each specific course. For example, with DPS, you'll focus on essential driving laws, offering a range of courses from LTC to DWI/DUI, and so on. I'm confident you'll do great!
Thank you, this is amazing! I really needed it.

Hello Thomas,
From my experience, the topics taught depend on where the course is being taken. For example, are you curious about police officers being in the police academy or college students in a classroom? I have done both and the curriculum is drastically different.
In the police academy we were taught how to apply specific laws, legislation, case law, and policy while performing our duty in the community. We also learned how to document and testify to our actions. This training was very specific.
In college we were taught broad theory based upon the course topic. For example, In Juvenile Justice we learned about theories of how best to address juvenile criminality. In Constitutional Law we learned about the Bill of Rights and how the Constitution limits government authority. In Terrorism we studied the different ideologies and activities of terrorist groups around the world.
Wherever you might be learning, I hope you do well and have a bright future!

Here is a link to the curriculum for the Basic Peace Officer academy in Texas. Other states should be similar.

I tried looking for Idaho's but lost patience. I'm sure it's there somewhere!
hope this helps!
