Hi Daisy,
While I don't quite know what vet school was exactly like 15 years ago, I do know that the steps to getting into vet school were very similar to how it is today. As Reema described above, a person had to get their 4 year Bachelor's degree and then attend veterinary school for another 4 years. The way people applied was either by a paper application or a more simplified application online compared to the one today. I'm also certain that it was more difficult to find animal experiences, especially online, as there weren't as many vet med related websites 15 years ago.

To become a veterinarian, there are several steps you need to take. Start by earning a bachelor's degree, focusing on science subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics. Once you've got your degree, aim to get into a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. This can be tough as it's very competitive. You'll need good grades, experience working with animals or volunteering at vet clinics, and high scores on tests like the GRE (Graduate Record Examination).
The DVM program lasts for four years and mixes classroom learning with hands-on clinical practice. After you graduate, you'll need to pass a licensing exam, like the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE), to legally work as a vet. If you want to specialize in a certain area, consider doing an internship or residency. This was the typical path to becoming a vet fifteen years ago.
