Hi, William !

You will find the perfect Career Coach or Counselor that you choose is perfect for you !

Westchester County has some of the highest standard High Schools. I assume that you are attending Bronxville High School, but if you are not, you can use the advice I give as a roadmap for how to seek out Career Counselors. If you are in college, ask this question again indicating your need for information for a college level student.

Bronxville High School provides professional counseling for their students and I have left the PDF booklet for their services for you in a link below. The counselors have an open door policy so you can visit them anytime. They conduct services through large group parent meetings, small group student meetings, large group student meetings, classroom sessions with students and individual visits with students.

Another option is to visit your public Library. Many libraries have many services, programs and activities that may be helpful for you. It would be great to visit there and see what employment services are offered and take advantage of any of their services and activities. You can also hire a professional Career Coach or Career Counselor, but they are very expensive, so you may want to try to get assistance that will not require or involve a fee. Most of those in Bronxville are psychotherapists that just offer career counseling if it's part of the sessions you need, that's why they're expensive.

Another way to possibly screen career services would be to visit Iona University's Bronxville campus and see what services they provide for the community.

Always remember us here at Career Village, too. Although we are not in-person on-site, we provide advice and guidance for college and career matters. Do not hesitate to return here with whatever may be on your mind about school, work or your future career.

Best wishes in all you do !

Hello! If you are looking for a career that suits you, the first thing you should do is identify your strengths. Ask yourself: What do I do best? How do people around me see me? What type of personality do I have? Am I good with words, with logic, with research, with creativity, with theoretical thinking, with practical application, etc? Once you are clear about your strengths, research the different careers available. But be careful, don't consult too many people as each one will tell you their personal experience and this can be confusing. Instead, look for objective information and compare it to your skills and strengths. Of course, your preferences and tastes are also important, but you should prioritize your strengths. You may like many things, but that doesn't mean you're good at all of them. Some may be useful for learning, but not necessarily for practicing a profession.

I suggest taking a career personality profiler. Like the Myers Briggs type indicator. I might feel silly or redundant, but they’re proven patterns in my career field for instance, most of my management team, and I scored the exact same way, which let us to believe people with our type of answer might be better considered to working service industry.
When I was in young still deciding on a path, the best advice I received was to join a local union(ex: hvac, electric, pipe fitting etc. )
I was able to have a job that paid well college paid for while I figured out where I wanted to go in the world. These are some of the highest paying and most in demand jobs right now, some people stay in the union forever, depending which one are very well taken care of for me, It helped facilitate me financially until I could figure out where I would need to break into Career wise.

Mary recommends the following next steps:

Take a quiz https://brainmanager.io/16-personality-test?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=personality_test&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAABMuDSq6eveg1uM-KARoQkRQB02qH
List out what you’re good at versus what you would like to be doing
Understand which careers are going to still be in demand 10 years from now

Rebecca’s Answer

Thank you for your question. The perfect career to you is the career you have interest.
Below are my suggestions:
1.. Think about what you have interest, eg your hobbies, favourite subjects, etc and identify the related careers
Eg if you like music, would you like to be a musician, singer, musical artist, music composer, music producer, etc
If you have interest in maths, would you like to be an accountant, engineer, banker, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges
Regarding the monitor, you can look for someone who can give you guidance and support, eg your school teacher, uncles or aunties , etc
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Aleah’s Answer

William,
There is no perfect career. I love nursing but some days I still wonder why I keep coming back for more. Think about what the bright spot of your day in your current job, school, or hobby is. One way that I realized I wanted to work in the nursing home (which I did for a few years until my scoliosis no longer allowed the lifting) was because I knew that helping the elderly was my favorite part of my job at a car dealership at the time. I realized I could do more of this if I worked in a place specifically caring for the elderly, such as the nursing home.
There is also no perfect career coach. We all have off days and flaws. Look for someone in a field (or fields) you are interested in, specifically someone passionate about that field, and just ask them if they would be willing to support you on your career journey!
Best of luck to you!
