I started working at a restaurant when I was 15 and it gave me some amazing experience. The best advice I can give would be to simply visit a McDonalds and ask to speak with the manager. Introduce yourself and let them know exactly what you typed here. With so many McDonald’s around, I’d bet you’ll find at least one manager who can offer you advice and guidance.

Karen’s Answer

Great you have a dream and are looking for ways to reach it. You've already taken the first step by identifying your dream and reaching out to others for help in reaching it.

Be sure to tell your family, relatives, neighbors and friends about your wish. You might also stop into your local McDonalds and ask if you might speak to a manager or supervisor simply to let them know about your interest and drop off your resume.

Start now, if you haven't already, to volunteer for a variety of activities. Look for one-day-events (set-up, take-down), or short-term opportunities (serving meals, handing out water) where you will be able to meet a variety of new folks and share your dream with them. These volunteer jobs can also be added to your resume to add to your skills and experiences.

With every good wish!

Hello Edberto!

How to Follow Your Dreams to Work at McDonald’s

Step 1: Understand the Job Requirements To work at McDonald’s, you should first familiarize yourself with the job positions available. Common roles include crew member, cashier, cook, and shift manager. Each position has specific requirements such as age (typically at least 16 years old), availability for shifts, and sometimes prior experience in food service. Understanding these requirements will help you determine which role suits you best.

Step 2: Prepare Your Resume Even if you’re applying for an entry-level position, having a well-structured resume can make a difference. Highlight any relevant experience, such as customer service roles or teamwork experiences from school or volunteer activities. If you have no formal work experience, focus on skills like communication, reliability, and willingness to learn.

Step 3: Apply Online or In-Person You can apply for a job at McDonald’s through their official website or by visiting a local restaurant. The online application process typically involves filling out personal information, work history, and availability. If applying in person, dress appropriately and be prepared to fill out an application on-site.

Step 4: Prepare for the Interview If your application is successful, you’ll likely be called for an interview. Research common interview questions for fast-food positions and practice your responses. Questions may include scenarios about handling difficult customers or working under pressure. Show enthusiasm for the role and express your desire to contribute positively to the team.

Step 5: Demonstrate Good Work Ethic Once hired, it’s essential to demonstrate a strong work ethic. Arrive on time for your shifts, follow instructions carefully, and maintain a positive attitude even during busy periods. Being reliable and showing initiative can lead to opportunities for advancement within the company.

Step 6: Seek Feedback and Improve After starting your job at McDonald’s, seek feedback from supervisors and coworkers regularly. This will help you identify areas where you can improve and show that you’re committed to becoming a better employee.

Step 7: Consider Career Advancement Opportunities McDonald’s offers various career advancement opportunities through training programs like Crew Trainer or management positions. Express interest in these programs once you’ve gained some experience in your role.
