Hello, Toluwanimi !
Even though you cannot train to become a professional athletic Gymnast here on this website or any other website, I would be happy to shed some light on what the steps would be for that career. You can ask us here questions about Gymnastics and the career path for it, but we do not teach. You would have to train at a gym in person for it.
Most gymnasts begin their training and learning at age five or six. It involves intensive physical and mental discipline and the training is rigorous. You would start out at one of your local gymnastics facilities. You would be training many hours per week to build strength and develop skills. The foundation of your training would be in learning handstands, back and front levers, and fundamental tumbling passes which would then allow you to advance further. In order to develop strength or technique, you may choose a specialty on specific equipment such as rings or pummel.
Body awareness plays a vital role for gymnasts and can take up to five years. You will need exceptional physical strength and body flexibility. You will also require to have a coach that is an expert in Gymnastics. Coaches are expensive, so your parents would have to be willing and able to pay for a coach. The coach will train you as well as guide you in your career.
The training and performing for this career will demand great sacrifices. You will have to make lifestyle changes in diet, social activities and dedicate your time to training which will make you tired so you'll have to spend time letting your body recover. This also means very limited social activities, too. The physical traits for gymnasts are shorter in stature, low body mass index, but with the right training different body types can adapt. Achieving success as a gymnast also takes mental strength. Focus, tenacity and resilience are necessary.
If this sounds like something that you'd like to do and dedicate yourself to, I have left a link to a list of the gymnastic places near where you live. If you discover that you do not want to take it to the professional level, try it because it still may be a fun, beneficial activity for you. Keep exploring more about this career and the process it takes to begin. Keep in mind that a website is not going to prepare you for this venture, you would have to do everything in person and pay for lessons as well as a coach. Do return here if you have any more questions in the realm of career or training and we can provide you with information to get you started.
Best wishes in all you do !
