Oliver, your personal brand in terms of your career is essentially your professional reputation. It’s who you are and what you stand for without having to explain it. It’s what others know about you and know of you when you’re not in the room. Your personal brand should be so powerful that people that have never met you, know you.
When I first wanted to make a big move in my career, I spoke to a mentor of mine and he gave me some solid advice. He asked me if I knew what my personal brand because he sure didn’t or couldn’t tell. I had to be honest, I didn’t know what it was either.
I was humble enough and I asked. I asked my boss, my subordinates, my peers. Just what they thought. I knew I still needed to own it but it was a start.
Then I realized my brand was my people. Taking care of my people and investing in their career and in their future. Now the issue was, how could
I promote my brand.
I did this in two ways, getting a sponsor and LinkedIn.
My sponsor would say my name in rooms I wasn’t allowed it. He advocated for me. I didn’t ask him to be my sponsor. I asked him to help level me up. In turn he say potential.
I made my LinkedIn my journal. I documented what I did with my employees. It wrote itself because this was a daily practice for me. What I did though was follow or request all the connections I could. I did not hold. Easily over 1000 people. Everyone was on there. Now people know me for what I love doing.

It took me a while to figure this out, but can be just seeking to hone and differentiate your skills, and be known for what you can do, are always learning, or are helping other with.
Often, a Personal Brand is not only an inclusion of what you can do, but also an exclusion of what you don't do - furthering your own Brand.
This has been an important tool when there's a change in your management, shift in priorities, or simply a need for that 'go-to person'. Being spot-on with your Personal Brand means that go-to person will be you.
