Hello! I'm of the opinion that the digitization of marketing has significantly improved its effectiveness. This is primarily due to the fact that it's now possible to clearly demonstrate the Return on Investment (ROI) for a larger portion of the expenses related to it. This implies that data, rather than subjective impressions, drive the results of an advertisement's performance.

Marketing expenses are a part of any Profit & Loss (P&L) statement or budget. In the past, when a company faced financial difficulties or growth was slowing, the marketing budget was often the first to be cut. This was because its impact couldn't be directly linked to a specific outcome. However, with digital marketing, I can now precisely track the performance of an online ad, even down to the revenue it generates. This visibility enables an increase in budget and personnel.

Traditionally, Above the Line (ATL) marketing methods such as press, TV, radio, and billboards were used to boost brand awareness, a vital component of the marketing mix. However, it's challenging to directly link these methods to revenue generation. To supplement these, Below the Line (BTL) marketing techniques like digital advertising, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), and content syndication are used. Each of these plays a crucial role in converting the generated awareness and interest into actionable steps and, eventually, sales.

I hope this explanation is helpful!

Hey there, so there are 3 primary reasons for this.

The simple answer to this is budget. The marketing budget has sky rocketed over the past few year. This started in 50s and the trend has only increased year over year. Which has obviously given us some incredible Super Bowl commercials. With the budget came the roles. The CMO role has earned alot more respect over the years and cemented itself into a full C-suite partner at the big table.

The other aspect, to your point, is technology. Not just in how the ads are produced but also how we watch them. We have Instagram, tiktok, Facebook, plus TV and pop up ads. Everything is so significantly more available and visible.

Another reason, we have significantly more disposal income. We are able to buy things we previously weren’t able to so companies need to compete for our dollars.

That’s another reason that most of the ads you see are either funny, nostalgic, or sexy. Those are the things that appeal to us. However, don’t get me wrong. They are doing a great job appealing me! They get my dollars all the the time.
