Aboout how many classes should one expect to take in a semester in college?

Taking 6-7 classes in a row in one day for high school can be a grueling task, but I have heard that most people take far fewer in college with breaks in between. What should I expect going into freshman year? #class #freshman

Philip’s Answer

I would start light at about 4 per semester (4 3 credit courses for a total of 12 credits in one semester ). After a few semesters you might be able to ramp this up by either taking courses with more credits or more classes.

I agree with Philip. 4 classes per term to start out is a good plan. It will be helpful to see how much time you need to accomplish the expected work load and that also gives you time to do other things like participate in sports or other clubs on campus, volunteer in your community, build job experience, do your laundry and enjoy your hobbies too! Once you've adjusted, you may be able to increase your course load, or maybe you'll find you're happy with the way things are going.
