What California Universities are recommended if I want to major in Zoology or Computer Science?

Are there any schools that have good courses for either of the two degrees? I'm planning on having one settled before I graduate high school.

Hello ,

California has great universities for both Zoology and Computer Science majors. A detailed breakdown of the top schools in each field is given below:
For Zoology and other related fields such as Wildlife Biology, Ecology, etc.

University of California, Davis

Strength: The UC Davis offers highly reputable programs in animal science, biology, ecology, and wildlife conservation. It is, however, best known for veterinary science, which usually shares certain aspects with Zoology.
Opportunities: The university offers ample opportunities to conduct research, internships with organizations focused on wildlife, and resources such as the UC Davis Arboretum and the Bohart Museum of Entomology.

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona)

Strength: The strong biological sciences at Cal Poly Pomona is a major strength, emphasizing environmental and animal biology.
Opportunities: Hands-on learning and direct connections with zoos, aquariums, and conservation programs prepare students for Zoology.

Humboldt State University (Cal Poly Humboldt)

Strength: Humboldt State is located in Northern California, which makes the surroundings of forests, rivers, and ocean habitats perfect for the research of wildlife and conservation.
Opportunities: Well-regarded programs in wildlife biology, zoology, and marine biology; abundant opportunities for fieldwork.

University of California, Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz)

Strongness: At UC Santa Cruz has a strong marine biology and ecology programs, making them an excellent option for students looking toward zoology with a concentration on marine animals and ecosystems.
Opp: Research opportunities are available by having access to the Pacific Ocean and the Long Marine Lab.

For Computer Science:
Stanford University

Strength: Stanford is one of the best universities in the world regarding Computer Science, mainly because it's situated in Silicon Valley; this immensely opens up opportunities for networking and internships.
Opportunities: The Department of Computer Science is well known due to its research, novelty ideas, and reach towards technology companies.

University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley)

Strength: Computer Science at UC Berkeley, year in and year out, is among the highest in the world. Also, a very strenuous curriculum is an added plus, with proximity to Silicon Valley.
Opportunities: Research opportunities and internships; a great network with tech giants such as Google, Apple, and Facebook.

California Institute of Technology (Caltech)

Strength: Caltech is famous for science and engineering programs. In the field of Computer Science, the prominence is huge.
Opportunities: Although small, the department of Computer Science conducts topnotch research in AI, robotics, and machine learning.

University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)

Strength: The well-respected Computer Science Department at UCLA provides a thoroughly nuanced education in software engineering, artificial intelligence, and data science.

Opportunities: Its location in LA puts you in proximity to its up-and-coming tech scene, plus available internships and startup opportunities.

University of California San Diego (UCSD)

Strengths: The UC San Diego Computer Science course is particularly strong in areas related to software engineering, AI, and data analysis. Opportunities: San Diego is building up its tech scene really well; UCSD has a lot of opportunities for internships and research.

University of Southern California (USC)

Strength: The Viterbi School of Engineering in the USC has a comprehensive and well-rounded Computer Science program that strongly focuses on entrepreneurship and technology innovation.
Opportunities: within commuting distance to LA to leverage tech companies; strong alumni network.

Highly Considered Factors:
Zoology: In choosing colleges, she looked for strong programs in biology, opportunities for hands-on learning, and or affiliations with wildlife or conservation organizations.
Computer Science: strength of program, opportunity for research, proximity to tech hub.

If you're choosing between these, some schools-like UC Davis or UC Santa Cruz-have great programs in both Zoology-related fields and Computer Science. You may further research interdisciplinary areas of study such as bio-informatics, that apply to both areas of interest.

Would you like more specific information about the schools, their programs, or admission requirements?

Good Luck
