Lineman school which prepares students for installation, maintenance and distribution of electricity has some level of uncertainty in the near future.
What? Electrical power and telecommunication grids are going towards modularized or packaged solutions, even though large grid transmission and distribution networks that are sustainable are available, but energy storage is a challenge due to environmental impacts and scarcity of raw materials for production of cells (e.g lead and lithium), and power and communication medium.
Satellite based telecommunication transmission and distribution, though are space hosted and uses aerial transmission and receiving stations or direct communication lines to devices of end-users. It tends to reduce hard-cabled systems like optic fibres, category 5 - category 7 communication cable systems and the likes that creates jobs for linemen. Thus, rise in quantum communication transmission via data packets tends to reduce job opportunities for linemen, if that becomes the global trend.
Wind and solar energy sources for power generation, transmission and distribution might last with adequate monitoring and control of other environmental resources and sustainable use of ecosystems services for balance and attainment green and net-zero strategy.
Hazards associated with overhead high voltage cable systems makes the modular solutions the have reduced voltage and power demand a direction, which reduces the volume of work done by linesmen.
Packaged energy resources and power solutions for mini estates, housing schemes, multifamily and single-family dwellings tends to have lower risks and higher environmental friendliness, pointing to a shift in future energy strategy as we approach convergence years in the carbon emissions, efficient and renewable energy management inorder to achieve science-based targets required safety against global warming and climate change.
There might a reduction in job opportunities for linesmen with implementation of sustainability strategies, but medium and low voltage systems has positive outlook according to: Future of Jobs Report by the World Economic Forum.

Being an electrical Lineman is a fantastic job. You are in demand, and because it takes training and time to get your license, it is a secure job as long as you work hard. The main thing with being a lineman is making sure you follow all the safety guidelines that keep you safe, and learn from the best, what the best practices are and why. Never assume, always check. Good Luck, you will be very pleased with the job.

Its hard to say that anyone is better off in a certain career. What's important is that its a good fit for you. Some things to consider may be:
1. How much education are you willing to take on?
2. How hard is it to get/keep a job?
- Maybe go look for jobs in your area and see how many are posted.
3. What is your earning potential? Does it align with your goals (travel, hobbies, property ownership, family size, etc.)
4. Would you be comfortable with the day to day tasks?
- Not everyone likes a desk job. Others don't like working in the sun. Everyone is different.
- Talking to actual folks in the career path can help you know what its like.
- Shadowing, interning and part time jobs can also help you get a feel for the job.
