Hello Emily! The world of the Game Industry is vast and filled with a multitude of exciting career paths. At our University, we're proud to offer comprehensive Game Design courses tailored for both Artists and Coders. So, it's time to ask yourself - are you drawn towards the creative artistry or the intricate programming? If you're unsure, don't worry! We highly recommend exploring courses in both areas to discover your true passion. Don't forget to consider the diverse aspects of the industry like the business dynamics, marketing strategies, development processes, artistic elements, and the influence of social media in games. Remember, the realm of games extends far beyond just Art or Programming. It's a wonderful blend of creativity, strategy, and technical prowess.

If you really love video games, you have multiple avenues. First there is Game Development/Design. This is where you can create video games right out of the editors used to make them. You will have to download and learn the game engines tools to get stared. With this I would recommend taking beginner courses online or watching YouTube videos on how to work the engine you downloaded.
Then there is Game Testing or QA (Quality Assurance). This position will have you playing video games for the sole purpose of finding bugs, glitches, and documenting anything you find in a video game that needs fixing. You will be given access to content that is unreleased to the public, still under development. Sometimes companies will give you a "dev kit", which is usually gaming hardware that is meant for playtesting early builds of video games. From people in the industry, this is one of the best avenues to get into gaming.
Finally, you have Esports. With esports, you have a multitude of options. You have either play video games competitively, meaning you play in tournaments, join a team, and earn money from winning tournaments, gaining sponsors, etc. Then you have Esports Coaching. If you are good at a game, and you can teach others about the game on the competitive level, you should look for jobs that are looking for and esports coach. Next is esports management. People in this field of work manage esports practice faculties, player schedules, and overall help an esports team/organization on the back end. Finally, there is esports production. Here, you will help set up for esports events, work with coaches, players, and sponsors. You will be tasks with building stages, hardware, stress testing software, maybe set up a streaming station, putting together gaming equipment, etc.
I hope these set of options gives you some things to consider. Good luck in your gaming journey!

Hi Emily! There are many ways to take your gaming passions. You could work at any step of the game development pipeline, whether it is preproduction as an artist, a designer, or during production as a programmer, a QA tester, and so on. The good part of game development is that there are many different elements that go into one project. You just have to find what you're passionate about and pursue that in the game development space.
