This is a broad question and I hope my answer is helpful.

First, what type of art are you interested in studying? Are you planning to enroll at a traditional college or university, or are you planning to go to an art school exclusively?

There is a saying in Latin, "Ars Gratia Artis," which is loosely translated as, "art for the sake of art." This means art is an expression created for beauty and meaning rather than for the amount of money a piece will bring in.

But, artists need to make a living like any other profession. If there is a direction you wish to pursue using art as a career in addition to self-expression, then see my points below.

Explore different art careers online
Visit galleries, art exhibits and online art shows. Go to open studios to speak directly with the artists.
Speak with your teachers about art and the various directions you could study

It depends, there are lots of fields in art like my self i am a 3D character artist.and it pays really well . But if you are into 2D(sketching) then you can also get paid in good amount. But you'll get paid good as a illustater or 2D artist. Let me know if you got any questions
