"How much time did it take for you to qualify as a correctional officer?

What level of education would I require to become a Security Manager?"

Mind that a "correctional officer" is typically Middle class entry employment. Managers, on the other hand, possess extensive knowledge or expertise across a wide range of fields related to leak prevention, monitoring, and cybersecurity, including degree programs and courses. You could consider managing a retail location or any area where there might be a need, to gain practical experience and develop prudent thought processes. You'll want to have courses like Knife Combat Enhanced Awareness on standby, along with techniques in non-lethal takedowns, pepper spray training, and guidance on handling your sidearm. I suggest online platforms like USCCA through the Concealed Coalition. All these steps contribute to becoming a versatile technician and eventually transitioning into a proficient sales and security executive manager.

TRAVIS’s Answer

Congrats on your Job Corps scholarship. Becoming a correctional officer requires training and where you work will determine the types of training needed. The usual options are, private, state, county (jail), and federal prisons. If your job corps offers advanced or college training you should consider continuing your training that way. This will better prepare you for the workforce once your graduate. Keep in mind you will need to maintain excellent conduct and attendance to qualify for the advanced/college trainings. Good luck. You will do well.

Angel’s Answer

Becoming a correctional officer typically takes a few months, depending on the hiring process, background checks, and training programs, which usually last about 6 to 12 weeks. For a Security Manager, you'll generally need a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field. Many employers also require several years of experience in security or law enforcement, along with management skills and certifications like CPP (Certified Protection Professional) to be competitive in the role.
