Hi Taurasi,
Advancing your career in office administration is an exciting path, and there are a few steps you can take to really bolster your skills and qualifications. First, I recommend you focus on enhancing your communication skills. This can be through formal classes, but also consider joining a local Toastmasters club or similar organizations. Effective communication is essential in any office role and will greatly improve your interactions with colleagues and clients alike.
Next, hands-on experience with accounts payable and receivable or basic bookkeeping can be invaluable. If you’re not already familiar with accounting software like QuickBooks, there are many free online tutorials available to help you get started. Many office administrator roles require at least basic financial skills, so adding this to your skillset is a significant advantage.
In the digital age, data management and cybersecurity awareness are increasingly important in office environments. Take a course on data management systems, or brushing up your knowledge of cloud storage solutions—like Google Drive or Dropbox—will not only make you more efficient but also demonstrate to employers that you’re tech-savvy.
Lastly, consider including volunteer work that showcases your leadership abilities on your resume. For example, if you can take on a role in event organizing for local community events in Anchorage, you will gain practical experience that highlights your ability to manage projects effectively.
Stay focused on your goals, and remember that every small step counts!
Best regards,
Aman

Hello Taurasi!
Any office is a cob-web of many things and hence administering it efficiently requires significant amount of co-ordination and organizational skills. I would suggest you
1. Invest your time in online/off-line courses to learn about office management.
2. Identify internship (can be paid/non paid lasting from 1-6 months) assignments related to small event management to begin with.
3. Decide if this is what you really interested in pursuing and then go for it full steam if the answer is 'yes'

1. Computer work - are you strong in the Office Suite? (Word, Excel, etc.) there are many online courses you can take to get better at all of these.
2. Organization - it is so important to be organized in this role as you may have to help organize others. Be sure to spend time in this area. What systems do you have in place to organize. Do you take notes, use something on the computer. Be able to explain how you organize yourself.
3. Communication skills - in an office administration job, you can be communicating with so many people. It can range from greeting them, organizing meetings and interacting with various people. This communication can include written communication.
There are so many online courses many that are free to focus on these areas. I hope this helps.
