Thinh’s Career Stories

How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?

I always knew I wanted to do something Art related. I loved animation, cartoon, comic book and Japanese Animation. These hobbies and interested led me to my career.

When did you get your first Big Break? How did you get it? How did it go?

My first break came during my last two weeks in college. There were industry people coming to your class to look at our demo reel and gave us critiques. They caught interests in my demo reel and offered me an interview for a paid internship. I went to work with them a week before I was graduated. It was an amazing moment in my life. I quickly gain my status from being an intern into animator working alongside the rest of the animation teams. It was the best first job.

What is the biggest challenge you had to overcome to get to where you are now professionally? How did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge for me was self-doubts. However, with my experience thus far in my career, as long as I continue pushing through to improve myself, I was always able to overcome whatever challenges ahead of me.

What is the most useful piece of career advice you got as a student, and who gave it to you?

I am still a student. I will always be. But the best advice I got was from Richard William's book:"Amateurs wait for inspiration, the rest of us get up and go to work."
