Just as with any other skills, interpersonal skills take practice and time to build. In addition to the advice provided by the other commenter, I will offer a tactical way to practice this skill.
Work a people-facing job such as in retail, food, or customer service - or volunteer regularly in a people-facing position. Putting yourself somewhere you interact with people on a regular basis will be a low-rise way to practice speaking with people, developing active listening, and exercising conversational skills.
Not to mention, it's something you can add to your resume. Try this to help you develop people skills. Good luck!

Hi Liam ! Interpersonal skills aren’t something everyone is naturally born with, but the good news is they can be developed with daily practice. My first tip is to practice empathy: put yourself in the other person’s shoes and think about how you would like to be listened to. Ask questions about what they’re talking about and listen carefully. This does require genuine interest, but even if it's not a topic you're excited about, remember that everyone deserves respect.
Being open and respecting differences is crucial. Conflicts often arise because we think differently, and accepting that not everyone has to share your point of view is a big step. We don’t always have to be right, and when we want to correct someone or share our opinion, it’s important to think it over first to ensure it's done in a constructive way.
Over time, these practices will help you connect better with others and build stronger relationships.
