Is underwater welding really that hard on your body. Also, how hard is it to get into, and what qualifications are needed?

I am a high school student who is wondering this for a career project. I have started welding in a fabrication shop and hear that an underwater welder's average life is 35-40 years, but they also make good money.

Underwater welders work for 6 months, then take 6 months off to keep them from getting permanent damage to their body. I personally don't think it's worth the money. Automotive restpration provides a close income without incredible damage to the nervous system.

Mark’s Answer

Underwater welders work for six months and then take six months off to prevent lasting harm to their bodies. In my opinion, the pay isn't worth the risk. Restoring cars offers similar earnings without causing severe harm to the nervous system.
