Blender is great start on the fundamentals of animation since it's free and open source. Autodesk is another industry leading program. For motion graphics, try looking at the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Especially After Effects and Illustrator. As an educational resource, I often recommend looking into Lynda.com to help get in depth tutorials on these types of graphics oriented programs.
As another tidbit, my friends who are animators also focused on the art dynamics of the human body. They hand drew endless figures to understand how the human body reacted based on physics and dynamics. They found this as a important technique that later transitioned well into animating on these popular computer programs.
