My name is Luke, I am a high school student and want to go into the #computer-software industry. I was wondering how many jobs there are in this field and how competitive the job market is.

Bill’s Answer

Luke, there are a lot of opportunities in Computer Software right now. Depending on where your interests are focused, you should be able to combine some of your favorite things with software. I would suggest looking at things like data science, augmented/virtual reality, software defined networking, and edge computing as areas with future potential growth.

You’re interested in a field that is very much in demand. I recommend Udacity’s online program. I took some of their free courses and eventually earned a Nanodegree in six months. The benefit is you learn quickly what your next steps should be.

Sachin’s Answer

Hi Luke,
It's easy to get a job if you're good at what you do. This is true as a programmer/software-engineer too. The more you practice, the better you will get, and the easier it will be to get a job. The market is competitive, but there is no lack of opportunities.
All the best!
