I have a tough time deciding between civil engineering and computer science, what are some factors I should consider?
Going to college next year I'm not exactly sure which major would be a better fit for me, both fields seem very interesting. #science #engineer #computer

I am surprised! These are two very different majors. Anyway, do you like coding? If you do go with CS.
computer engeneering is the best for your career

Do you enjoy programming ? I tend to love solving problems and use my analysis skills whenever possible (even every day life) so CS was a good fit for my career. Base your decision on what you think will make you happy - not which pays the most. If you are good at your profession the money will come. Also remember if you are just starting your career, this is the time to take different classes and keep an open mind. You have plenty of time in life to decide your final career.

Hank,
The best career is the one that has you spending most of your time doing stuff that you love doing. It's even better if it pays well, but a well paying job that you hate is a trap that too many people find themselves caught in. You will enjoy life much more if you do something you enjoy so well that you can make good money from doing that.
Both civil engineering and computer science require you to solve problems, but they are very different problems. You should spend some time thinking about the types of problems you like to solve and which career has problems closer to those you enjoy.
You could ask yourself some questions:-
* do you enjoy modeling and working with your hands? This would suggest that civil engineering may be a good choice
* do you enjoy thinking about abstract problems (these are problems that are hard to describe)? Computer science may be a better fit
* Are you good with math? Math is important for civil engineering but with the introduction of concepts like big data and artificial intelligence, math skills is becoming a very important facet for computer science
* Do you like working with people, or do you prefer to work on your own, only occasionally interacting with others. Civil engineering as a career demands much more social skills than computer science, and while you could fake those skills, it's much more enjoyable to find a career that doesn't require you to fake anything
