Can you get into a good well-known private university if you wait a year before going?

Hi! I am a sophomore in high school and am planning to go to a smaller college to become an RNA an then go to a bigger private university after to receive my bachelors degree in neurobiology and/or general biology before going to med school. Will going to a smaller college before trying to get into a private university affect my chances into being accepted? Would my chances of being accepted be better if I applied to go right after high school? Or would it be the same? #college #medicine #university #graduate #surgery #undergraduate #information

My brother left high school to CMU directly. In other words, yes. You could always apply to the college and the university at the same time. Hopefully you would be accepted by the university directly. If not, hopefully you would be accepted after accumulating some knowledge and experience. Remember, never apply to just one institution! Always put several plans in place, because if you don't get accepted you would lose a year. Moreover, you could always try to switch universities.

I don't think going to a smaller college prior to a larger, private university will hurt you. I'd suggest reaching out to the private college admissions office you eventually want to be at and having a direct conversation with them about what you're considering and how they view that. As an example, I spent my first year of college at a large public university and then wanted to switch to a more prestigious private university. To achieve this I had to go to a "feeder" community college for one semester in between my transition but I took the private universities' advice to do this.
