How to become a Mechanical Engineer?(Watch the 3 Idiots and it will give you nice outlook about engineering in general)
Well you need to practice a lot to be good in Math, Physics and drawing. And have curiosity to look at various machines around you and figure out how they work and what kind of mechanisms are driving these machines. How you can make them better with less cost? You need to be good in above 3 areas because Math helps you to calculate the forces, power and various other quantitative numbers to check you design is good or need improvement, Physics help you to change the physical problem to equation forms like Physical problem is I need fast Motorbike than you use physics to change this problem to some equations in terms of, what speed you need for bike, Mileage, Power and load capacity etc. and the third element is drawing. Now a days a lot of 3d Software are available to do this part like solid works, Catia, pro/e, which helps you to give the physical shape to you idea.
You tube and Discovery Channel will be your good companion for watching shows like how things are made?
Mechanical engineering is the kind of universal engineering stream. Means Mechanical Engineer can possible work in any kind of industry on the other hand other engineering fields have some restrictiveness.
There are few fields which will be absorbing a lot of mechanical engineering in future. Like Semiconductor industry, Electric Vehicle companies, Green Energy companies, Robotics, etc.

You have to concentrate on math and physics for your current schooling. Afterwards, you should join a mechanical engineering program for higher education.
