I would recommend that you take a look at art schools, like the Maryland Institute College of Art, not just at traditional broad universities. My daughter went there, and at first we were worried that she wasn't getting a broader general education, but it turned out that these schools know they are preparing students for many possible art-related careers. A traditional university may have an art program that prepares you to teach art in school, for example, but an art school may have 20 different majors, and most include preparation for running the business side of freelancing. For example, as part of an illustration major, there are classes on how to correctly value and bill for your time, how to keep business records, what to do if someone is slow to pay, etc. They also offer scholarships that help defray the costs. Good luck!

Specialization is very beautiful, because it makes you focus on one thing, and present your best things in it, as you use your energy to move forward.
Hi Ali, this doesn't answer the student's question. Do you recommend the double major?

Based on my experience, I recommend to specialize in one course, if possible

Hi Raiee,
Personally, I would highly recommend double majoring in business. Business is apart of everything! What are you planning on doing with your art major? If you are looking to promote yourself and your art, I think taking business classes would greatly help you. As far as cons when it comes to double majoring in business, the only things I can immediately think of would be the time commitment as well as the financial commitment.

Thank you, that I was thinking. I'm currently in my Junior Year of High school. I was thinking of making a small business out of my artwork, such as posters, print outs, pins, and stuff along those lines.

That sounds super cool and obtainable! I have never regretted spending my time learning more about the ins-and-outs of business. Business skills also translate to life/people skills! Good luck with your ventures!
