As a computer Engineer, which would you insist to pursue a life-time career in? Hardware or Software?

High School student, deciding if I should do hardware or software in computer engineering. #computer-software #computer #computer-engineering #computer-programming #computer-hardware

Thank you comment icon Hello, Thanks for Asking..!! It completely depends on your choice & interests. So, You have to take the decision that in which you are more interested. In software stream you have to learn about operating systems, compiler technologies, In hardware stream you have to learn Architectural level, computer architecture, hardware, VLSI etc. Both streams have good career growth. Best of Luck :) Divya

You also don't need to make a decision right now. E.g. I went to school for hardware, realized I was going to fail at my specific goal (CPU architecture), and then switched to software. There's some skill transference...

I'd lean towards software .. .the hardware that supports 'the cloud' doesn't change as quickly as the software behind it.

That's a tough question. I would shy away from recommending one over the other because it's a personal thing. Personally, I like creating software as it is challenging and ever changing. Do you have equal interest in both? What do you think sounds better creating mobile apps, websites, etc or working no hardware?
