With various reasons to pursue different careers, you need to try to identify what makes you happy. What brings you a little joy at the end of the day. For me, it was always solving problems. I loved approaching a problem from a different angle given my personal experiences and set out to solve things courageously. I am constantly in awe of the software solutions other companies and teams have put into place and after coming from the military where technology is ancient - digital advancements really change lives. My recommendation is to begin listening to a few software podcasts to see how they talk and if that is a livelihood you could stay motivated in for the long run.
Self-awareness, hunger, and genuine curiosity are what make a great software developer or SAAS salesperson. Good luck! Identify what drives you and then understand what you are willing to sacrifice to succeed.

There are many reasons people choose to go into Software Development / Engineering. For some, it's the fascination with being able to create something from lines of code and nothing more. Others enjoy the problem solving aspect of designing solutions to complex problems. A fascination and obsession with technology is often common, for example the desire to understand how and why a computer game works the way it does. There are also some who are seeking a well-paying career.
All of these are valid reasons to enter the Software Development world, but take time to really understand what the day to day work involves. Are you someone who likes combing through huge volumes of information to find a single error and fix it? Do you have the patience to try and fail many times when solving a problem? Do you get excited by tackling a completely new challenge?

I liked computer games and I wanted to learn how to build my own. There are lots of different types of software built with many different languages. Some are more business related, some is related to games, music, operating machines, computer hardware, phone apps, etc. Pick an area that interests you the most and see where it takes you. You can also pick a project that interests you. Write a phone app, Build Minecraft extensions, control a robot, etc. From there, start researching how to do it :-)
