Urvashi’s Answer

Hello!

I am a Software Developer at heart! I started working right out of college after getting my B.S. in Computer Science from the Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, FL.
I'm someone who likes a variety of things! I like to cook, listen to music, read, travel, and learn! And oane thing I noticed growing up was the need for computer science in everyday activities and especially, activities that I loved!
Today, I work in Aviation and Aerospace Industry and provide solutions to airlines to have a smoother travel experience for travelers as well as the airports!
What I really love about my career is that I can work in almost any field I want and care to learn more about! I have an interest in finance and reading. So in my free time, I write python scripts that recommend books to read, thereby using it in yet another field! :)

I am assuming you are also exploring a career in Software Industry. I encourage you to reach out and create a group of like-minded individuals who are also in the same boat as you and are willing to explore this industry. The best thing about my career is the people I work with and the people who help me grow personally and professionally! :)

RAVI’s Answer

I assume you are planning to be a software developer, tester, systems engineer/analyst within the software field and exploring how people in that field like their jobs.

Before I explain what I like about my job, I need to provide a brief intro to my career.

I worked as a software developer for nearly 15+ years and then changed over to systems architect to define how all the software modules need to work together for a few years and I moved into Product marketing giving business requirements to architects and systems engineers to go develop the software to meet the business needs. I am there for the past 17 years. All of this has been with a very large global company.

While I was a developer I enjoyed learning new programming languages, learn techniques to write better code for faster performance, etc. It was a constant learning, and pretty fast paced. Never a dull moment. But yet, it started getting monotonous.

While being a systems architect, I started gaining a broader insights in how businesses are built around software architectures and started learning more about businesses that interested me more into business.

Then I transitioned into Product marketing which identifies business needs and defines business requirements and works with systems engineers, developers and testers to get the software developed and delivered to customers. It is very satisfying to see the product succeed and customers feel happy.

In all of this, the best thing I liked about is the "Constant Learning" by interacting with different people, different cultures, different technological changes.

Desiree’s Answer

I like the variety! At least once a week (if not daily!) someone asks for help and stumps me, so I have to do research, consult with colleagues, etc to solve the problem. I enjoy the new challenge, always learn new things, and never get bored.

Also, pre-COVID, I really liked to travel as part of my career.

Jodi’s Answer

I am in a Supply Chain role with a large company. I really enjoy the variety of projects I get the ability to be involved in, things are always new and different when trying to drive continuous improvement even though we keep the same foundational focus around supply chain planning. Also a huge positive for me with my career and the company I work for is all the opportunities I have been fortunate enough to be a part of both through day to day work, traveling the world, volunteering in my community and building my career now and for the future with different roles and experiences.

Eugene’s Answer

When answering these questions, I think people often focus on the things they do at their job or in their career. I would suggest you go one level deeper than that. Ask yourself what kind of person you want to be. Who do you want to become?

I am happy to go into more detail about my day-to-day job, but I can tell you the number one thing I like about my career has been the people with whom I get to work-- Really smart, creative, funny, warm, wonderful people. I work for a company that's dedicated to empowering children through education and I get to be a part of that. I manage a team, which means I get to coach and mentor them, build processes and systems to help them do their jobs, and help them reach their career goals.

I hope this helps!
