De'Jon, I agree with Melissa. Based on your interests, gaming design sounds more like your cup of tea, but don't narrow your choices yet. You may find you enjoy something different once you enter a design program. My advice is to take as many classes that might help you build your basic knowledge of design and design theory. Having a strong foundation is key, so focus on those basics for now. I say this too because most high schools have a limited curriculum. Depending on what your school offers, maybe you look at taking animation and illustration. Learning about color theory, typography and photography is also helpful. Any of these classes will enhance your design skills tremendously. One of the things I have learned in the professional design world is that there are very few graphic designers that are able to produce or art direct for their own design assets, whether it be illustration or photography. Good luck to you. I wish you much success!

Melissa’s Answer

Well I was a graphic designer in the beginning of my college experience but changed it to animations because I felt graphic design dealt with more logos and fonts and posters while I wanted to create digital character designs and concepts, go into maybe creating characters for games or videos. I was mostly big on the drawing and designing concept of characters so I decided to switch on that and take animation courses like hand-drawn character animation (2d animation) and animation 101. If you are really into games and created game scenarios or characters, I don't know if graphic design is for you. If you have any questions about animation and character design, feel free to ask! gaming gaming-industry character-animation character-design design graphic-design animation

Any class is ok, you just have to be aware of the details. Science and art are very different and similar at the same time
