Auto mechanics make excellent pay. You will need to learn the job first and it will take time to accumulate all the tools you will need to be proficient, but you should be able to make a six figure salary within 5-10yrs. Never stop learning.

I am not a mechanic myself but my husband is. In addition to the great advice from other posters, an advantage of being a mechanic is that you can work in a variety of shops. There are retail shops (think dealerships or other repair shops for customers). You can work for a school district repairing buses and other vehicles. You can work for a city or a county servicing police vehicles, fire trucks, and city-owned cars and trucks.
In retail you may work on commission so you have the opportunity to make more money than your base wage. Working at a school district or for a city (depending on where you live), can have stability and good benefits, without the stress of being on commission. So many opportunities are out there for mechanics!

My son just graduated from Universal Technical Institute. You can make good money and jobs are plentiful. He starts Mercedes School in a couple months, so he will be certified with Mercedes. UTI will assist you in finding a job after you graduate also. so find a school, doesn't have to be UTI, to get your basics of being a mechanic. Always something new to learn in the automotive field.
thank you so much this will help me and it inspired me so much and gave me so much motivation.
