What kind of opportunities does the San Jose Job Corps Center have to offer??
Will we be networking and working with different agencies off-center like internships? What kind of certifications will I receive through the trade that I chose (Facilities Maintenance and Electrician)? Will I receive advanced training in all the trades here in San Jose or will I have to transfer to a new Job Corps Center?

Hello,
I worked for a Job Corps in the past so I can help you. Depending on what training you start with can determine the path for Advanced Training. I do not see any credentials listed on the website for Facilities Maintenance and Electrical is not listed at all. They do offer Advanced Transportation for an advanced training. You will need to complete another trade first and have excellent attendance and conduct to be eligible for that. You may be able to transfer to another Job Corps for advanced training in other areas if they have openings. Some of the other advanced trainings may require you to complete a specific vocational training first. For example if you wanted to take advanced nursing training to become an LVN/LPN you would need to complete CNA training first. Most trainings try to incorporate Work Base Learning which is similar to an internship. If you do well alot the time that can lead to a job offer when you graduate. Work hard and stay out of trouble and get as much training as possible while you are at the Job Corps. Ask alot of questions and do not get discouraged. Ask questions to the instructors about what it takes to be successful and what did other students do in order to get high paying jobs when they graduated. If you just started, take your time and learn as much as possible and get as many certifications as you can. If they offer college training take it. You will have 3yrs in order to complete your basic training (2yrs max) and your advanced training (1yr). Use as much as you can in order to have every possible chance to succeed when you graduate. The Job Corps gets graded on how well students get paid when they graduate so the staff all want you to be successful. Avoid negative peers or going AWOL. You will do well. The links below are the trainings offers by San Jose JC and the Advanced Training offered at San Jose JC. Some JC campus allow students to take community college courses. I do not know if this one does. But if they do, you should consider it. You might be able to graduate with an Associates Degree in some advanced vocational training that way.
