I like that you are looking to work in this economy. The best job is not the question, the question is which job would you be best suited for? If you are good with remembering orders with faces, enjoy thinking on your feet, like to make someone's day, than a waiter is the job for you. There are high-end restaurants that pay better than average pay, plus tips are the icing on the cake. My father was a waiter back in the 70's. My aunts were about to lose the house when he came home from maneuvers in the army, worked day and night for 3 days waiting tables at an exclusive restaurant in a port city and made enough money to save the house...in 3 days. There are few jobs that offer you that freedom. If you are better at directing others then consider management. There you have the responsibility of managing a team of people. You need to be detailed=oriented, a great trainer, and recruiter. You need to be good at making decision quickly and be accurate in that too. If that is too much pressure, and you are laid back and like mixing drinks, then a bartender pays a lot of money. Some people consider a bartender to be the club's shrink. for you will take and make drink orders, so you need to have a good memory of many drinks. You need to be friendly and personable to get others to open up to you, you need to keep your clients alive when they overdo it by not letting them drive intoxicated. You have to be responsible even though you are serving them to drink. You can be creative at home, but in the restaurant they are going to want you to stick to the drinks listed on the menu. You will take orders over the phone when the restaurant is busy and you will bring food from the back, but for the most part you will have the bar as your office.

It's truly what you feel you'd be best at and what you actually enjoy doing.

If you love cooking, becoming a Chef would be amazing because you'd be able to create the dishes on the menu.

If you'd like to run the floor and make sure the front-of-house staff knows what to do, becoming a General Manager would be great for you.
