Dino’s Answer

If you have entrepreneurial skills you can flourish in sales and marketing. I want to know if you will put in a big capital in your furniture store? What role will you take an owner or sales staff? If you are the owner there is no harm in trying but do some due diligence or research about the need of your community. Market research will help you and target top 3 potential market from your research then start your plan how you execute your business. In every business you must know how to take risks sometimes you are winning sometimes you are failing. Doing your research will minimize your failures. If you play the role of the sales staff any sales and marketing experience will help you grow handling customers service and improve your personality and will make you strong person in handling rejections.

James’s Answer

Good question. A furniture store can teach you customer service, salesman ship. Additionally this career path will help you to learn the importance of "follow up" with customers. Example: If a customer orders a couch there is a delay. You will learn how ensure you are advising the customer of the delays in their product request.

I would also encourage some kind of business courses to help you to quickly develop your skills. An education or a trade is so important. No one can ever take that experience away from you!

Good luck!
