What is the day in the life of a social media coordinator for a big company like Disney? What is your average salary? What major should I go in in college to obtain this job?
I enjoy art and design and am looking into business, marketing, and advertising… Any other career ideas for me?

What an excellent question! Your single query contains three separate questions, so I'll do my best to address each one. It seems you might be considering a role in the creative department of a large company's marketing division. As a social media coordinator, you would likely manage posts and content across major social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and more. Your tasks could involve monitoring various posts and their responses, as well as planning and designing content, including visuals.
In my previous company, the creative teams explored ways to utilize AI to enhance their work, such as finding the most effective images, layouts, and even text. Staying informed about the latest AI tools could be beneficial for you. Common majors for individuals in this field include business, marketing, art, digital and graphic design, and even English. The average salary for a coordinator can vary based on industry and location, but if I were to estimate, it might range from $50k to $75k in the tech sector in California.
Good luck!

Hello, I work for a large 5 star resort on the east coast so my perspective is similar to that of Disney- however that company has a legendary experience all its own!
A day in the life of a Disney (or any major resort) social media coordinator will likely begin with a review of emails & calendar appointments for the day. Resort departments will request social media coverage for certain events/promotions/marketing campaigns and you will receive most of these requests via email/calendar invite. There may also be a short meeting in the morning with the marketing team to review these promos and content to push out. Once your schedule for the day is set, you will spend some time at your desk reviewing activity across all relevant platforms, interacting with commenters, reviewing exposure and reach, etc. When it’s time to attend an appointment, you’ll grab “your” camera (or coordinate with audio/visual or an outside photographer if they have been asked to do the camera work) and take anything from close up shots of a new cocktail menu launch, big action shots of a new ride or major event, or even in-house content meant for the consumption of employees (it’s so-and-so’s birthday or work anniversary today!). You’ll review content, edit and select what you want to push out, probably coordinating with a social media or public relations manager, and then…post! The end of the day will involve another period of time reviewing platform activity and preparing for the next day’s events.
Social media coordinators will earn between $40k-$60k annually, managers $60k-$80k, and the career pathway will lead to marketing or public relations manager/director $80k-$120k.
Different colleges offer different majors, but a focus on photography, digital media, marketing and journalism are all good categories.
Disney is a very internal promotion-oriented company. The best first step is getting in the door in any position, establish your reputation, network, and when the position becomes available, apply for an internal transfer/promotion. Best of luck!
