Hello Isabelle!

I don't know 100% what you're facing right now - the end of high school, or the end of college - but I want to say that your feelings are valid.

There's two videos that might help you with finding clarity in your direction, path, and journey:

- What I learned in [my] 20s | https://youtu.be/Zwht6Ub-YD0
- My Life Plan: How To Create A Vision, Purpose & Goals For Your Life | https://youtu.be/Rw2qaMltFcY

Watching the first video could help broaden your perspective of what life can feel for you.
The second video goes in depth of how you can find motivation and next steps for the way you want to live. (I watched the second video a few days ago and found it very insightful).

Remember that it's okay, and that today will become tomorrow. You will have chances to control and shape the life you want.
Sending you support as you find a new direction :)

Arun’s Answer

Isabelle, it seems you're facing some tough moments right now, but remember, they won't last forever. Life is full of highs and lows. Try not to let negative thoughts overwhelm you. Think of three activities that bring you joy. Concentrate on acquiring new abilities. Spend time with positive friends who lift you up. Don't hesitate to ask your family for assistance if necessary. These challenging times will pass, and everything will turn out alright for you.

Paul E.’s Answer

Although this may seem like your last fun summer, trust me when I tell you, there will be many more. Think about managing your time so that you can still have fun spending time with friends, travelling, and doing all the things a responsible high school grad does in the last summer before going to college. However, keep in mind that a summer job, or internship can be rewarding in more ways than one. For instance, you may want to bank some pocket cash to use to by supplies for your freshmen year. If you are particularly passionate about a certain field or direction you think your studies will take you, try to find a part time job in that field. That way, you can gauge early on how interested you truly are in that field.

Truthfully, everyone has a different path. This is not a one size fits all method. I found success in working a summer job to get money for the upcoming year, and still spending free time with my friends. The summer before freshman year is a great opportunity to learn to efficiently manage your time between fun/work. This will be a reoccurring theme throughout your life.

Also, think about the course that you have signed up for. See if there is any prework/pre-reading that you can do to get ahead before the 1st day of school. It is super important to hit the ground running in your freshmen year. It will help you find your stride, so you don't seem lost on day 1. Again, that is what worked for me.

Hope this helps. Whatever it is that you choose, though... own it. Be true to yourself but listen to those that you truly trust for advice. Take that advice to formulate a basis and make a decision for your own path. You will do great!

Craig’s Answer

Hello Isabelle,

It's great to see that you're seeking advice, as it shows you're open to exploring new possibilities. Begin by connecting with individuals who are engaged in activities they find fulfilling and enjoyable. The more gratifying the activity – be it work, socializing, sports, or group hobbies – the more fun you're likely to experience. Don't worry about committing to a lifelong pursuit right now; instead, focus on surrounding yourself with like-minded people, and opportunities will naturally arise.

Best of luck!

Abigail’s Answer

Finding a part time job is a good way to give you work experience, but also allowing you to have some free time for yourself. I don't think you should rule out volunteer work either. Volunteering your time to places and communities that you are passionate about looks great on resumes as well. A lot of people have to work odd jobs before they get into the career field that they want to be in. Just remember that nothing is permanent. These are just stepping stones for a future career. I hope this helps!

Celena’s Answer

Perhaps start with personality test. Once you narrow down your core skills you can expand on that. Also, there are part time volunteer or internship opportunities. Do not under estimate the power of building connections. Be flexible with your self and your interest, try a few different opportunities.

Sara’s Answer

If you're unsure about what to do next, begin by giving yourself a break to clear your mind and emotions. During this time, reflect on the decision by weighing the advantages and disadvantages. Consider what's important to you: do you want a brief summer vacation to recharge before exploring job opportunities that offer travel or personal time off?

Rachel’s Answer

Could you find a way to balance both aspects? Consider working part-time to maintain your job experience for your resume while also embracing and experiencing your best life. You might work a minimal schedule, such as 2-3 days per week, or take on a seasonal summer job to have some time off during the warmer months. This approach can be both rewarding and motivating.
