Once you have that degree, you have to check if your state requires you to have a license.
With that license you will submit a request to open up an LLC or S Corp :)

Thank you, this is really helpful.

Hi Cami,
Massage therapy is broad field. First, you must go through training, and pass your licensing test.
There are many different techniques and styles of massage therapy. You need to do some research to see what is being offered in your area? What need exists? Who are your costumers and what do they want? There is a big difference between a relaxing Swedish massage, and a deep tissue sports massage, or a Raki energy massage and more.
In our area, there are several large chains (massage envy, hand and stone) who can offer special deals, coupons, etc. they make it very difficult for the small businesses to compete. My massage friends do it by teaming up with chiropractors, salon/spas, senior living facilities, or going mobile and seeing clients in their homes, gyms or offices.
You may consider working for someone initially and getting a feel for the business before jumping in alone. Accounts receivable, billing, marketing, overhead expenses and taxes are all a tricky part of any business.
Also remember, massage is a very physically demanding job. Get in shape, be strong and protect your back!
Good luck!
